Is the Maths in Focus textbook sufficient for someone aiming for a high mark?

Add my vote for Cambridge too. And with the enrichment questions you definitely don’t need to be able solve all of them to get band 6 (some of them are way harder than anything we’ll get in HSC)

what order to complete past papers in?

Chronologically from oldest to newest or newest to oldest. I’ve been doing them new to old but some of my teachers suggested saving the most recent papers for later.

    Civil Engineering: USYD or UNSW?

Is there anything in particular that’s made you discard UTS? I’m looking into engineering too (specifically mechanical/mechatronic) and am almost convinced that UTS>USYD for engineering. I know the ATAR is ten lower for UTS but their engineering facilities seem better (from their open days last...

    Orbits clarification

total energy formula for orbit is E = -(GMm) / (2r) being derived from gravitational potential energy added to kinetic energy (derived from assuming circular orbit equating gravitational force with centripetal force). From this energy formula we can see that a decreased orbital radius leads to a...

Am I right to think this

I watched Eddie Woo's 3 part series on how HSC marks work and his explanations worked really well for me. Part 1 here:

Has anyone made a comeback after half yearlies to achieve their atar goal?

One of my friends got 65% (i.e. bad) in our first maths test and got 100% (i.e. insane) in this last maths test (3U btw)

Why are tertiary alcohols more reactive than primary alcohols?

oh lol bored of studies wont let me post an A T A R notes link. I'll copy+paste the answer here: Hey! To understand this, let's split the alcohol up into the hydroxide component (OH−OH−) and the carbon component, which we call the carbocation. The carbocation is positive and the hydroxide is...

When accounting for flame test and emmision of light like why it occurs:

My chem teacher always said "leave the physics in physics!" or something. Also keep in mind that if you mention physics stuff and say something that is wrong you will lose marks

Many aas diagrams show a diffraction grating and monochromator but wuts exactly the purpose of it?

The light has been emitted (from the cathode lamp) then passes the sample (in the burner/atomiser) then it enters the diffraction grating monochromator. The monochromator selects only one wavelength to analyse and is needed because the burner (being fire) adds more wavelengths to the ones...

    Yelp mindblanked

Its propanol. Esters are weird and for some reason won't form hydrogen bonds. If you want to know why, google it and read one of the numerous university level websites that pop up.

Subject Selection for Year 11, 2022

If you have to choose a reserve I would caution you about information processes and technology. I did it accelerated in 2020 and found it pretty boring. The syllabus for it is so outdated (e.g. talks about 3G being an emerging technology) and it is basically just content memorisation. Maybe that...

    Complex q

A graph is definitely useful for this question. From it we can see that the maximum modulus of z1 + z2 will occur when a straight line connects the origin, z1 and z2 (the diagonal orange one). We know that: theta = arctan(4/3) using z1. And because the value of z2 giving maximum modulus is also...

    is this question just retarded
