    I would guess 90+

Trial mark in relation to exam mark

My school is in the top ten and if you get above 80 you are a demi-god, the majority of these kids will still be getting band sixes. If your school performs well in your externals and you do to, you will likely get a band 6, however, the exam hasn't been yet so worrying about band 6 isn't important.

Yes it's another ATAR prediction thread

Ceebs to estimate your exam marks but it looks as though your going for a 93-94.

Whoever estimates my atar and gets closest, will get a $20 itunes gift card :)

1/2 your atar times 2. Trollscience, can never be wrong. On a serious note, 80 is easily achievable for you if you put in effort for your externals, I'm predicting 84ish, I'm pretty sure you can get over 80, trust me though it isn't doing you any good to stress about during your exams though.

    Why are esters good solvents?

Not all esters are good solvents. The reason why esters can be good solvents though is that they are able to dissolve organic liquids. Ones that are solvents have generally less than 6 carbons and are good solvents because of their polar nature. Does this help?

    Please recommend a text book?

We used antiquity for ancient, its not specifically focused at the syllabus but does have some good sources. I wouldn't really recommend it though.

Drawing up a Table instead of writing it out -CHEM

Yes that is the point of a comparison table but I like to add an extra comparison column just in case they have marking guidelines for comparative language, which is unlikely but I don't want to waste a mark on chance.

    Chemistry: Checklist

agreed. Don't worry though after tomorrow you won't have to do it at school level ever again.

Doe your background really affect your subject choices?

Erm I'm pretty sure you stereotyped every Asian. Asians get whipped by there parents to do well, the best scaling subject is 4 unit maths, that's why heaps of Asians do it. It's a question of intelligence, Asians want to be intelligent so they pick good subjects.

    Sugarcane to produce Ethanol

Yeah sure. Alright, sugar is mainly made up of glucose, Ok? So the equation is: C6H12O6(S) -------> 2C2H5OH(l) + 2CO2(g) This fermentation reaction's conditions are: -Presence of yeast -Anoxic environment (No oxygen) -Approximately 37 degrees celsius The glucose from the sugar cane is...

    Chemistry: Checklist

I've looked into it and what I can find says it is because the carbon begins to corrode it acts as a cathode and forces iron to be an anode. The fact that the carbon is always being dissolved shifts the equilibrium to favour the reduction of carbon and thus the oxidation of iron. My source for...

Unlike, also, however, differing, similar to, the same as, varying from, etc

    Chemistry: Checklist

I'm not sure if I can explain this but I'll give it a shot. Chromium and Nickel alloys are used in steel as they form an insoluble oxide layer over the steel, this prevents rusting/corrosion from occuring. Carbon is also used in steel to reinforce it, e.g. structural steel, when there is a...

So how smart are selective school students nowadays?

This. The focused environment is the most important benefit, by far. Don't believe stereotypes about selective schools as well, the kids are still just normal kids.

    Chemistry predictions

Hoping for heaps of calculations. Expecting lots of Chemical monitoring and management though.

So how smart are selective school students nowadays?

I would definitely suggest trying to get in to the selective school. I'm from one and there is countless advantages to them.
