I don't think that Modern is too much work - as long as you have a passion for history and a good teacher it is a great subject. I always enjoy going to modern and it is probably my favourite class =) Definitely don't choose ancient if you think it sounds dull!! You will regret it in yr11...

I recommend a teacher though - they help you with technique and playing properly, something that you can't really self teach. But then again, if you're just playing for fun I guess it doesn't matter =)
