Subject Selection Music 2 or English Ext

It's up to you. I would personally choose to continue Music 2, because you can get by with talent + hard work, particularly if you're good at performing, whereas I wouldn't even be doing English Ext 1 if there wasn't an English Ext 2, where I can create and showcase my own thing. However...

What's it like doing a bridging course for math?

I want to study a combined degree of Law/Business. The prerequisites for my course include: Year 12 (or equivalent) English, Mathematics A or any combination of Mathematics A, B or C. I dropped math, so I need to do "Mathematics A" or 2u. I'm not sure how bridging courses work, though. 1)...

    2018ers Preliminary Chit Chat Thread

A few days to go! I'm excited because I finally have something to work towards. After some thinking and researching this holidays, I've decided which degree I want to do and what uni I want to get into. Year 11 was mainly a mess because I had no idea of my future, what my darn goal was in...

    High School Friends

This is true. I have friends from way back to primary school that I regret breaking apart from. They were all going to this one school, but I decided to go to a selective because I "got in" and thought I was better than them all, and could make better friends at a selective. Well a few years...

I'd rather do the Great Gatsby. :( We're doing 1984, and it's blah to me TBH. I'm not really into sci-fi.

    Post Graduation Depression

Wow, this is totally going to be the opposite of me once I graduate. I've hated high school since Day 1 and vowed that once I leave, I ain't ever coming back. *cough*Thepeopleandmy"friends"beingmynumberonedeterrent *cough*

For those who succeeded in English Extension 2

Hey, So there are only six other people in my class, and I'm sure I can beat them all. My goal is to come 1st in this class for both internals and externals. Creative writing has been my strongest point since as early as Year 2, and I've researched, planned and written my own stories since...

    Some questions about the journal

Is it true that the journal isn't read AT ALL?

Also, with starting too early, there's the possible issue of burning out + falling complacent as the year goes by.

In regards to this, I read in one of those "Secrets to HSC Success" books that there are many people who succeeded and got 95+ ATARs without starting in the holidays. So don't think you're at some fatalistic disadvantage if you don't start early.

Should I get a job during Year 12?

Definitely take the job! I've found that time expands when we have too much of it. Basically meaning that the more time we have, the less efficiently we tend to use it.

Year 11 rankings - do they matter?

Matthew 19:30 "But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first." :spin: :spin: :spin:

All nighters or wake early in the morning?

I did this for Legal and got 23/25. BUT only because it was based around one topic. Cramming one topic during an all-nighter is possible. DON'T do this for your prelims or yearlies. Your brain can only hold so much.

What exactly do universities look at when you apply?

Obviously, your ATAR and Year 12 marks, but what about everything you've did from Year 7 to 11?

    2018ers Preliminary Chit Chat Thread

I had my English Ext. exam today. I find it fairly easy to improvise on the spot, which is what I did. Also, my teacher didn't like the dark ending to my prepared story, and I wasn't bothered to change it, so I just trashed it and winged one on the spot with the help of the stimulus and my own...

Do you rote learn English Extension? Like, prepare a creative in advance and adapt it to the stimulus? Good luck, by the way!
