Do we need to memorise the pH at which indicators change colour?

Damn. I don't get why stuff like this gets tested. I always thought chem would be more about application and less about memorisation. Sure, we have to apply it after memorising, but why would anyone memorise these in real life when they could just have them written down... less likely to make...

Do we need to memorise the pH at which indicators change colour?

e.g. Litmus, phenolphthalein, bromothymol blue, methyl orange?

How do YOU study from your notes?

Yeah, I tend to be doing that nowadays... I'm going to attempt explaining them to myself now. I think it'll be more efficient than rewriting.

How do YOU study from your notes?

Just out of curiosity. I know different things work for different people, etc, etc... Personally, I rewrite them as only keywords, then go back over that a few times. How about you? i.e. do you just read them, re-summarise, teach them to someone, etc.

    Question about studying

Looking back in your notes is fine. But when you go to answer the question, don't copy/rewrite exactly from your notes. Take a look, think about it, then write it from the top of your head. This helps with developing better recall. Also, you might want to mark the questions you can't do...

    HSC 2005 Q4 a

Ohhh. I get you now! Thank you so much for your help! I'll have to try to find some more similar questions in past exams to practice this considering I've never actually seen it in my text book... I think what confused me was when you had 1/2[f(x)]^2 rather than something like...

The sum and product of roots

Ah ok. That makes more sense then. We were never explicitly told this by our teacher. Oh well, already studied a good portion of year 11 content for trials anyway. Just gotta keep revising!

    HSC 2005 Q4 a

basically, I don't understand \int_{0}^{\frac{\pi}{4}} \sin^2 x \: \mathrm{d} (\sin x) How this step works. What happens to the d(sinx). I see that we've integrated sin^2(x) (or at least, that's what I think you've done), but then what happened to d(sinx). Does it get cancelled out by...

    HSC 2005 Q4 a

I understand that d/dx(sinx) is cosx but I don't understand what it is when it becomes d(sinx) after multiplying by dx,

    HSC 2005 Q4 a

is d(sinx) just (sinx)? Also, I think what I don't understand is how you're integrating both sin^2x and dsinx... I'm just really confused, sorry.

    HSC 2005 Q4 a

I still don't understand why the d(sinx) has disappeared. Also, why isn't the integration of Sin(x)^3 all fancy like the integration of Sin(x)^2 haha? EDIT: What exactly is d(sinx) now when there isn't the 1/dx in there? And yeah, I usually do the substitution method, but this seemed too...

    Chemistry Calculation resources

Does know of any resources (not just past papers) involving mainly calculation questions with worked answers or examples of how to do them? If so, I'd greatly appreciate any you might like to share, and am sure many others will too!

The sum and product of roots

Yeah it is. I just expected it to be in the year 12 one to reflect the syllabus. Well, at least I know now!

The sum and product of roots

Is this in the year 12 mathematics course? I just came across it in a past paper (2006) but can't remember doing this since year 11... has there been a syllabus change or is it in here :S I'm looking through the syllabus now and can't seem to find it.
