Is it morally wrong to break the law?

That's an interesting point, and obviously upheld by the law to some extent, i.e. if you kill someone in self-defence. But I don't think it should legitimise EVERYTHING, regardless of immorality, i.e. committing mass murder. The line has to be drawn somewhere, obv the problem is where we draw it.

    Tony Abbott new opposition leader

Wish there *would* be a DD. But looks like it won't happen now.

    Homosexuality in Australia

Tangent's post epitomises the issue at the crux of this, in my opinion. To go on about preserving marriage for the sake of religious values is archaic and hypocritical. The values once held when these texts were written are mostly out of date and inappropriate in our modern context. If those...

    Homosexuality in Australia

But was Jesus not one who questioned the established order, challenging the 'faithful' and question people's most fundamental beliefs? He saw the importance of doing so and consequently changed the world. Change and questioning is necessary for humans to move forward, Jesus epitomises this.

    Homosexuality in Australia

If I'm so 'amateur', surely my question would prove easy to answer, considering you're so superior to me, nothing I do could possibly defeat you. So why the silence?

    Homosexuality in Australia

Yeah, ok. But how do you *know* that is the truth?

    Homosexuality in Australia

The church needs reasoned debate - theage.com.au Honestly, how can you be so self-important as to believe that you, and only those like you hold the key to 'truth'? Isn't that a little grandiose? By the way, I feel very privileged to have a special place in your heart as one of your 'favourite...

    Homosexuality in Australia

Firstly, how can what you say to the gay members of this site be considered anything but personal? You constantly attack them, accusing them of 'sin' when they simply express desires to explore their sexuality - which is a right that you take for granted, because you are straight. What if it was...

    Hope there's a DD!

Should we raise the drinking age?

Aaaaaaanyway, in my opinion, it won't make any difference. If people want to drink, they're going to drink, just the same as it is now, get fake IDs or older people to buy the alcohol.

    Age of consent?

You'd have to have pretty sick parents to do that. There are people at and above the age of consent that aren't emotionally/mentally ready for sex, mentally handicapped or otherwise. What makes you think someone under 14 would be? Also, just because you *can* do something doesn't mean you...

Man sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia for witchcraft

Yeah that's bad. Not doing the general reputation of the Muslim population any favours.

    Adoption

Yes, adoption should be much easier, especially adoption within Australia. My parents were thinking of adopting before they had my youngest brother, it was really hard, which is obviously why they had a third kid the usual way instead. But yeah, it's expensive, and as ay0 says, it's very drawn...

    Adoption

    +1 Totally agree.
  18. HumanDichotomy

    Age of consent?

Yeah they are both 16 now. I think that 16 is good...we can have that as a 'rule of thumb' and look at things within that framework. At 16, you get other considerations legally as well, i.e. you pretty much get autonomy for legal or medical decisions.

    Homosexuality in Australia

Agreed. Abolishment is not the answer. FYI - Commonwealth accepts gay ceremonies - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

    Should chaplaincy continue ?

Yes, it should be continued. At my school, I thought both chaplains were great during the times that shit stuff happened. But I think there should be a standard they have to meet, maybe do a counselling course, and be especially experienced in working with young people. I also believe that they...
