Ocean Vuong on English Paper 1

Did it? I haven't read all the comments on the English papers.

Ocean Vuong on English Paper 1

You are correct. And I am confused, because when I typed the post, I added a comment that I thought the article was worth reading - there are some clever replies by Vuong - but I also added a reminder / request to remember there is an individual behind a social media account or an account...

Ocean Vuong on English Paper 1

Excerpts from Ocean Vuong's On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous made an appearance in English Paper 1. In The Guardian today, there is an article about Vuong bombarded on social media and some of his responses to comments made. This is not the first time that an author whose work is used in an HSC...

    2021 BoS MX2 exam

@Pedro123 and @icycledough, you have each correctly identified one of the three questions that most of candidates answered correctly... and the question that proved most difficult was not Q8.

just vomited on the day on eco now what

I was thinking of the GP if you threw up in the exam, to back the invigilator. For sick beforehand, I think it depends on what... if you skip the exam, put in a form saying you felt unwell with no details and had a medical certificate stating you had a sprained nostril hair, I doubt you'd get...

just vomited on the day on eco now what

Someone who is sick before / during an exam should go see their GP, who will almost certainly write a medical certificate. NESA isn't going to second guess a medical opinion without quite extraordinary circumstances.

    2021 BoS MX2 exam

    Anyone else have thoughts?

    Arg qs.

\arg\left(\cfrac{z}{z+4}\right)=\cfrac{3\pi}{4} While you are looking at the locus of points P being described, you need to remember that a point on its own has no argument. To have an argument, and thus direction, you need at least two points or a line or vector. Rewriting this as...

Could I have a list of things allowed in the HSC

If you are going to take in pencils, I'd consider an eraser and maybe a pencil sharpener

    BoS Past Papers

There has been some consideration to restarting Advanced papers, though it won't happen in 2021. Speaking only for myself, the fact that there were significantly more registrations than participants this year was disappointing / discouraging. Writing these papers takes a very considerable...

    BoS Past Papers

I'm responsible for marking all of the chemistry. I am also marking parts of the MX2 and MX1 papers. Given the order of the exams, our first priority is to get the MX2 papers marked. I am progressing on marking both MX2 and chemistry. To give you some scale of the task, here is a picture of...

    2021 BoS Chemistry Trial

Here was the sample answer: The teacher appears unaware that sodium acetate is a weak base and so could cause a colour change with an indicator. And also that ethylamine is a gas.

Masks to be compulsory during HSC exams

And when one of the exam supervisors asks you to put it back over your nose?

Masks to be compulsory during HSC exams

Day-to-day conduct rules do not include exclusion from high-stakes assessment tasks for coughing. Excluding someone from starting an exam on the grounds of suspected COVID might be defensible, triggering the procedures for an estimate based on missing an exam by misadventure. However, faced...

Masks to be compulsory during HSC exams

If getting kicked out of an exam because of a cough or two results in a zero, NESA will have a lot of parents submitting a lot of paperwork to challenge decisions. If you do get kicked out, get tested immediately and have your parents notify the school that a misadventure form is coming and...

Masks to be compulsory during HSC exams

If you're vaccinated and get COVID, you will likely have a much milder course of disease. You will, however, still be infectious and able to pass COVID to others. When I did my HSC, I remember thinking that the exam supervisors were about the oldest group of people I had ever seen all together...

    king's property

Fair point. If this was an HSC question, it would likely tell you to use x=\tan\theta before the King property.

    2021 BoS Chemistry Trial

These were the marking criteria: Marking Criteria Marks Labels bottles Flow chart is clear Uses micro test tubes or depression tiles Procedure uses minimal chemicals Correct procedure 4-5 2-3 Provides some relevant information 1 I bet that would make marking the question...

    2021 BoS Chemistry Trial

I agree that there are plenty of approaches, which actually makes marking more difficult to. What astounds me is that a teacher at HSC level would not see any of the problems with it, and nor did anyone notice in the checking process. I wouldn't let first year uni students near glacial acetic...

    2021 BoS Chemistry Trial

Yes, if you had the reference spectra for A and B, then IR certainly would be useful. I didn't think from that perspective as identification by comparison to reference spectra is not covered at all, but it is widely used beyond the HSC. Perhaps another issue to clarify, that I mean you are...
