    Mid-year transfer from other uni

Doing well is a factor that gets considered. I'm not sure if you have to apply though UAC or the uni directly, particularly with law which is quite competitive. If you are planning on transferring, make sure you ask around for what gets you credit points at UNSW and what doesn't. For example...

No late round offer despite 99.95 ATAR (EAS) because I applied "too late"?

Don't count on ATAR cutoffs for later round offers. Those who just made the cut in the main round are very unlikely to give their spot up. And also, in later stages people do apply for fun/bragging rights ("I got offered into law!") with no intention of actually accepting. Unfortunately if you...

    Timetable question

To extend that response, lectures start week 1 (end week 12), tutorials and labs start week 2, (end week 13). That means in week 2 tute, you cover week 1 lecture, in week 3 tute, you cover week 2 lectuer ... week 13 tutorial, covers week 12 lecture.

    Transferring into Dual Degree

Not too hard. Just follow the media arts/comp sci course in your first year, and maintain a WAM of 65+ (Credit) during your first year. Here's more info on transferring. https://my.unsw.edu.au/student/academiclife/program_transfer/program_trans_Eng.html I recommend you do subjects like...

    Peer Mentoring UNSW

Peer mentoring is good to get to know other first years in your school (and most likely doing the same degree or one similar to you). You get free food throughout the semester, and attendance is optional - so hey, why not :D

    First February Round Offers

Unless you are sitting at 0.05 atar off the cutoff for 2014 main round, there's little chance you'll get into the final round. The best thing to do (if you are going for a particular uni) is choose a "similar" degree (similar subjects/units for the first year) that is within your atar range...

    Serious advice needed :)

Agree to some extent that your choice of uni matters in some cases (ie: Engineering / Sciences for UNSW) but ultimately that should not be the reason you choose one over the other. For arts they are quite similar, and there isn't one that is much better than the other. Do consider the subjects...

    Notebooks vs. Laptops (NOTES/STUDYING)- help

Depends on the course. If a lecturer puts up slides and other material online then it might be the easier option. Pen and paper is still the best for subjects like maths and some engineering. Commerce is the same with/without a laptop, however keep in mind that like high school essays or long...

    Getting to UNSW

There are many transport options. The most popular (and the most convenient) is the 891 from eddy ave as others have mentioned. Simply go to eddy ave bus stands (on the park side, furthest end from the station). There will be a massive line, usually managed by the security guys and a few people...

    O week - Faculty Welcome

Nothing important in engineering. Just a hello, and stuff... Then they split you into whatever degree/school you are in (eg: Electrical & tele, CSE, Mining, etc) where you go to your respective school and get another talk from your head of school. I just went to CSE one with a friend - there...

    UNSW ID cards (2014 students)

Honestly, it is not worth going all the way to uni for the ID card if you live far away. Just go during O week IN THE MORNINGS where the line is really short (during the first hour of the day there's 4 photographers and no lines). During mid day / afternoon the lines can be very long. Oh...

    Commerce/Law at USyd or UNSW?

It will be hard to get an impartial and unbiased answer here. Well done on your ATAR, both are very good unis, and I'm sure you will be quite happy at either. I recommend you look at things such as student life, ease of transport, course flexibility (in commerce and in the law side), or...

1st yearer needing help here with timetable!!

Refer to the handbook, or if in doubt just email the school office - (they are very friendly and helpful in giving advice as well as clarifying if you enrolled in the right subject(s) or not. Also, just a tip about uni in general, you can enroll in whatever subject you want whenever you want...

    Contact hours for Comp Engo

Comp Eng will do comp1917, Physics, Maths and Discrete Maths. The math subjects are quite long (6 hours each, lecture and tutorial) while 1917 has a 3h tute/lab plus a 2h lecture (another 2h is usually optional/revision). Not sure about physics - I know there are lectures and a lab. Expect a...

    1st Year Textbooks

many people use/share e-books, but do not buy any textbooks until your first week of lectures. Your lecturer would advise what books are necessary in the first lecture. You may find that some are just recommended, or supplementary - meaning for additional reference you can go to those books...
