    Essay Method - Structure

Thanks a lot, and yeah I like that style with the two texts. How broad or specific do you think a thesis statement should be for each of those four paragraphs? Sometimes with extension, I feel it's hard not to repeat oneself throughout an essay. Separation of material throughout the essay has at...

    Question 14 Solutions

If they're not being too fussed about specifics for that question, do you think 'n is divisible by 4' would suffice, even though that doesn't really take 0 into account?

    e4 cutoff?

Does anyone doing 4U feel ten times better having struggled their way through the Ext 2 test and gotten 70/80 than having done the 3U test and just made a couple silly mistakes?

    General Thoughts: Mathematics Ext 1

^this exactly. Pisses you off knowing it was only the silly mistakes that stood between 64 and 70.

2012 HSC Extension 2 Mathematics Solutions

^This. Except for some reason I said it was the perp bisector of u1 and u2. I really hope they were just looking for the algebra and didn't need the geometric description.

    Q12

Re: probability question There's 5 possibilities, therefore in two turns there's 5x5 = 25 possible outcomes. 5 of these are draws (e.g. 1,1 2,2 ...). The other 20 of the possible outcomes are symmetrical, I.e equal chance for both of them, hence 10/25 = 2/5 chance of win.

    Q12

Can someone please help me out, for the parametric question, I stated that x(p) = x(c) therefore x= t, but then for y what I did was solve the two parametrics given simultaneously, which gave y = x^2/k, and then subbed in x = t, hence showing the y result holds and thus P lies on the parabola...

    2012 Solutions -- Terry Lee

For the displacement question, I subbed x = 0 into the displacement formula and the acceleration (x) formula and then formed two simultaneous equations with a and x and because of an algebra error it enabled me to solve the question and get an answer, despite having taken a very wrong method...

    Simple Harmonic Motion

When doing these types of questions and working back from the acceleration, if you quote the formula in terms of t and x and then proceed to evaluate the constants, is it necessary to do so for both the sin and cos result. I'm asking this because there's been times where for example, the epsilon...

    Essay Method - Structure

More so for Crime, but all over I suppose, what do people think is the best way to structure an extension essay considering they're looking for a bit more flair and sophistication. Is it best to: - Make 2 overarching thesis statements that form the basis of basically two substantial body...

    General Thoughts: Mathematics Ext 2

Alright, checked everything with Terry Lee's solutions and I got between 80-82/100. This holds unless they find some ways to take away marks on a question I got right...or if I'm not remembering one of my answers correctly. Based on what you guys have been saying, sounds like that mark might get...

    Q14

For the volumes question, I used similar triangles to find out the length of the side of the rectangle in the triangle, but that's it? 1 mark you think? :)

    Q16

If I got very close to proving the k + 1 step for the induction proof, just missing out on fixing up the algebra, do you think I'd get 1 or 2 out of 3? by which I mean, I'd used assumption, had (k + 1)/(k + 2) on bottom but the polynomials they were multiplied by were not the same... Also for...
