    Subject Advice

making notes is only part of the ingredient to getting a good mark, understanding and absorbing the content is another. doing past papers is a good way to test your knowledge and understanding. try to get past papers not just from your own school, but ask friends from other schools too in order...

    Module C: History and Memory.

although The Fiftieth Gate is such a bore to read, every page screams History and Memory!! I recommend Wild Swans as a supplementary text, it works very well with TFG. this module is the best bit of English, in my opinion.

    history and memory

this module of Advanced English focuses very heavily on the 'how'. This requires you to examine the way the texts have been written and the particular methods used by the composers to represent certain events - what influenced their decisions, why did they choose this particular representation...

    Gwen Harwood readings???

My English teacher pointed out the difference between the old syllabus for Critical Study of Texts and the new one, which is in the new syllabus, the emphasis on YOUR PERSONAL interpretation (ie. what you've learnt, how you view the text) of the texts, NOT a direct copy of some other established...

    Values for Frankenstein vs Bladerunner

there was a strong connection between Nature and humanity. Nature was often viewed as God's immanence on earth and hence humanity paid respect to it (with the exception of Victor of course). however, this strong bond obviously no longer exists in Blade Runner given the complete annihilation of...

    Working in free periods?

are you restricted to spending your free periods at the library? if you're free to move to a quad/free classroom, maybe you could try that (if it's relatively quieter). is there an area designated for study in the library? how about try making summaries/notes for your subjects? doing some...

Do I need chemistry for Bachelor of Medicine?

yep, Chem is assumed knowledge not prequisite. i'd say if you would like to pursue a medical career that you give chemistry a shot. plus, chemistry is a cool subject(coming from a biased perspective of course)!! Prelim chem isn't difficult, it links well with what you've already learnt from...

    Notes advice + Maths advice

there's is no 'right' amount of time to making notes, as it depends on individual needs and committment. some people prefer their notes to be extensive, others want their notes to be brief. but at this stage of your HSC, i would recommend you make very thorough notes, and continuously revise...

What units to choose for year 11?

if you intend on taking 4u in Year 12, then structure 1 is the way to go since it includes 3u maths. Maths and Physics taking a few more units of maths is always complementary for physics but keep in mind that the sciences these days are more qualitative than quantitative. (check out the hsc...
  13. V

Do HSC sciences need more maths?

the HSC sciences are too qualitative, not quantitative enough. in some ways they resemble the social sciences.

How to set up an effective study routine?

make realistic goals and be flexible with your plan include breaks in your timetable if possible, allocate specific times where you would devote your time to homework, assignments, exam revision, writing dot points, etc. for example, work on HW first from 5 to 7pm, then write dot points from 8...

What to do with 12 units? (advice please?)

keep the subjects until you've done some assessments and perhaps then you'll get a better idea of which one you find more appealing, easier and and which one allows you to maximise your HSC potentials. good luck =]

    Com/Sci 1st year

Hi! I'd like to major in actuarial studies for commerce, and either maths or stats for science. Recently I read a recommended study plan but I'm not sure about which ones are core and which ones are electives: ACCT1501, ECON1101, MATH1151, MATH1081, ACTL1001, ACCT1511, MATH1251, COMP1911 With...

Is this a legit study technique?

you can memorise the dot points, but every time you do, you must make sure that you truly understand each concept because a lot of HSC questions aren't straightfoward, they require you to APPLY your knowledge. Try to locate questions relevant to each dot point to test your understanding.

Advice on studying in yr 11?

' Although Prelim results are not counted towards the final HSC mark, Year 11 is actually a very important year for you to experiment with different study habits and find the right one that suits you the best. Besides learning to work most efficiently, a lot of what you learn in Prelim becomes...
