No, it's still a song and needs to be analysed as such. You may have gotten away with it then, but I assure you you won't in the HSC.

There's no point in doing a song if you can't analyse the musical composition of it. It's a song for a reason and you have to address that. Otherwise, don't expect spectacular marks in an essay where you're using a song to back up your argument.

The problem with songs is that not only must you analyse the lyrics, language wise, but you also have to address the musical component as well (after all, it is a song). For example, how does the tempo and beat at this point in the song show whatever it is you're arguing? You don't have that in...

That is exactly how you structure your essay if it asks for two related texts. Make sure you synthesise what both texts show and how they link at the end of each argument.

Usually the first. You're not prevented from using the latter format but really in the allocated time you have, your analysis of each text will be poor and shallow since you don't have enough time to analyse 3 texts twice in depth.

Ideally, it should be between 1-2 pages and should loosely follow the format of an essay since you are required to compare/talk about more than one text. Set it out as you normally would for an essay but obviously trim it down (e.g. one example for one text should be enough for a paragraph).
