http://community.boredofstudies.org/586/general-university-discussion/230368/i-wanna-pass-but-i-dont-want-study-all.html Life moves forward. Second year will have new challenges, new parties, new friends and new good times. Look forward to it, there's a shitload of people in this world that...

ANU is my dream university, but why there are so many negative sayings against it?

Re: ANU is my dream university, but why there are so many negative sayings against it Agree. ANU = research intensive institution w/ great international reputation. UniMelb = great university with great international reputation. Either is great.

    University Travel Passes

Ah if only life was free forever, where the government paid for everything and no one paid any taxes :) At least Aussies get half price tix, imagine the poor international students who get no discount despite their $20,000 fees.

Exceeding credit point limit in degree (taking extra units)

I thought that under HESA (Higher Education Support Act) you are not permitted to take additional, Commonwealth-supported units once you have met your degree requirements. The reality is probably that with most universities graduating thousands of students a year nobody is really checking that...

    The 'After School Hangover'

Welcome to life. Uni days are going to be some of your best days ever. Being broke is def part of being a student, but so is all the freedom, the massive amount of holidays, partying, socialising, trying new classes and basically being able to decide what you're going to do with yourself...

Two summer school subjects - and one overlaps...

Re: Two summer school subjects - and one day overlaps... That's something you'd want to be 100% sure about. Just call the faculty - they'll be able to give you the right, non-speculative answer. Better still, get it in writing...

    Importance of Orientation

...and people not yet able to have conversations for more than 15 seconds with Asians.... what a generalised load of crap....

    Importance of Orientation

Lots happens in first year orientation. It's a chance to meet people, sort out classes, find your way around, get the hang of being at uni etc. Probably not the best idea to miss it.

QUT, UQ or Griffith? Opinions please!

Sounds purely anecdotal to me. UQ (Group of 8 + research intensive) is certainly regarded top in a general sense....but every university has areas of excellence if you are looking for a specific area, as you are. Call the criminology departments at those unis and ask them why you should study...

Is it rude for a tutor to call a student gullible and eccentric?

Doesn't that depend on if you're gullible and eccentric? ;)

how many majors can you do?

A major is usually 18 cps at 300 level (out of a total 24 for the year). Check out course details at: Programs by Degree - 2009 Course Handbook - Macquarie University

Will I be penalised for writing 2400 words for a 2000 word essay?

Short answer = nobody knows for sure. Give your paper a savage edit to be safe.

    exchange to japan

Unis have to service hundreds of outbound exchange students so don't normally search for courses for individuals (they'd do nothing else otherwise). What's your uni? Maybe someone in the Australian Exchange Alumni Network or the National Federation of Australia-Japan Societies can help...

    Macquarie drops in world rankings....again!

I love how his bonus is based on a ranking as opposed to student satisfaction, graduate outcomes or research output. Sure these things might be incorporated in some way in rankings but a ranking doesn't fully reflect them....

Brown University & Other Ivy Leagues

Jiao Tong is generally considered the most rigourous of the world rankings, but there's plenty of debate about how these rankings are determined. Academic Ranking of World Universities
