    Implicit Differentiation

Thanks for the help. However my working goes like this: x^3+y^3=1 \frac{dy}{dx}=-(\frac{x^2}{y^2}) x^2=0 At (0,1) there is a horizontal tangent y^2=0 At (1,0) there is a vertical tangent Intercepts: x-intercept: 1 y-intercept: 1 With this information, shouldn't I draw like a quadrant?

    Implicit Differentiation

x^3 + y^3 = 1 Can someone help me graph that because in my working I get results that will make me get something only in the first quadrant

    Implicit Differentiation

x^\frac{3}{2}+ y^\frac{3}{2} = 1 I'm doing that question and I was wondering why the solution only has it in the first quadrant.

    Implicit Differentiation

    Hi. I've got a little query here. For this absolute value equation y = \left | x \right |-\left | x-4 \right | I get. y = 4 for x > 4 y = 2x-4 for 0 < x < 4 y = -4 for x < 0 How do I know where the greater than or equal sign goes?

    Implicit Differentiation

Actually, all I need help with is graphing these types of functions. Can someone show me an example and give me some tips.

    Implicit Differentiation

Hi. I've finally figured out how to graph composite functions and now I'm up to implic differentiation and graphing it. The textbook has a small explanation but it isn't clear enough. Can anyone explain to me. Hopefull Jetblack you can help me out again. Eg x^0.5 + y^0.5 = a^0.5

    Quick Projectile Question

Does this mean there is no initial vertical velocity?

    Quick Projectile Question

A ball is thrown horizontally from the top of abuilding and lands in a bucket on the ground 50m in fron of the building 3s later. Is the initial velocity of the projectile 0m/s?

    Quick Projectile Question

Hi. Thanks for the help. But can you explain how you got d, h and k

    Quick Projectile Question

Can someone help me out on all these questions, well except the obvious ones like a and i. I'm not used to using projectile motion without an angle and time.

    Quick Projectile Question

Hi. I've got a question here. You don't have to answer it, but it would certainly save me some time. Is it possible to get answers for all these questions. A lifeboat is dropped from a plane at 100m/s from a height of 1000km (just rounding the numbers off) a) initial velocity b) initial...

    Integration Question

    Hi. I'm not sure how to do integration by substitution when one the substitution they give us is a square. Eg. u^2=x+2 Find\int \frac{x-2}{(\sqrt(x+2)}

    Parametrics - Locus

I've already got the first question. Thanks. The y coordinate for the 2nd question is meant to be (\frac{a(p^4+p^3+1)}{p^2+1}) If that doesn't help, the question is. If PN is a normal to the parabola x^2=4ay at a variable point P and SN is drawn through the focus S parallel to the...

    Parametrics - Locus

Thanks for the help so far. I'm nearly finished parametrics. Just a couple of last questions. Here's a question I simply cannot do. Tangets are drawn to a parbola x^2=4y from an external point A(x1,y1) touching the parabola at P and Q. Prove that the midpoint, M, of PQ is the point...

    Parametrics - Locus

Thanks. Can someone help me finish this one off as well. It's a question that the ends of the normals of a focal chord meet at R. Find the locus of R. I've got the coordinates to be (a(p-q),a(p^2+q^2+1)) Can someone check if that's right and how I can finish the question off.

    Parametrics - Locus

Thanks I got it now. Also, I've been stuck on this one. I know the co-ordinates are right (\frac{ap^2(p+1)}{p^2+1},\frac{ap^3(p+1)}{p^2+1}) Can someone help me turn that into a locus equation. I know I have to let the x-coordinate equal x and then make the subject p, then sub it into y, but...

    Parametrics - Locus

q=(x-a)/2a Can you eplain how you got that?
  18. N

    Parametrics - Locus

Hi. I'm not sure how to answer questions involving midpoints where multiple parameters are used. Eg. Locus of the midpoint of P and Q on x^2 = 4ay where the x-coordinate differ by 2a

    Quick Graph Question

Thanks but how do you know when to use 0 or 1. And what about the limit stuff, which is what im most concerned about.

    Quick Graph Question

Ok I'm doing 2^cosx My Working So Far: Features of 2^x - All real x - As x approaches infinity, 2^x approaches infinity - As x approaches negative infinity, 2^x approaches 0 - When x=1, 2^x=2 Hence for 2^cosx - All real cosx - N/A as cosx never approaches infinity - N/A as cosx never...
