    Exam Technique

In my subjects such as Physics, i always do the extended answers first, it gives me confidence and settles me down. Also, the reason i leave multiple choice til last is because they can just be guessed if push-comes-to-shove. I initially find the first 20 minutes of any exam- any subject very...

English - How many related texts are you preparing?

Im only preparing two. Your teacher obviously smokes dope, because that is rediculous. If you look at previous years, two is the maximum required. Having any more than two, will just impact on the depth to your writing. God i hate English so much.

    Writing stamina

Do finger weights. Just mentally block it out for the duration of the examination.

Is my schools new rule actually allowed?!

I don't think this kid is doing it for the cohort mate. Who cares how the cohort benefit/ or don't, at the end of the day it's his future, so if i was in that situation i would not give a toss about how possibly jeopardising my mark would be benefit the year. Also OP, they cannot do that, if you...

    Mum makes me disadvantage

Who gives a toss what parents say. You are doing it for yourself, and not your parents. I don't understand parents like that, pretty pathetic to be honest. It's good for parents to take an interest and try to keep you motivated, but not to the extent of downgrading you.

How many hours are you currently studying a day in prep for HSC

I am doing 0 at the moment, but before my trials in term 2, i was doing 3-4 hours a night. I have lot's of motivation, but just feel mentally burnt out and lathargic. I surpose it doesn't help when your school is flooding assignments left-right-centre, in the leading weeks to your HSC, thus...

Achieve a band six when failing maths?

Yeah, and how much of that is actually effective study. 1-2 hours? If you do, then your a mug.

Achieve a band six when failing maths?

OP: Of course you can achieve a band 6. It's not about the hours you do, but it is your understanding. It could just take 30-45 mins a day to consolidate this understanding. Also, don't be quick to blame it on the amount of hours you study, because at the end of the day, it could be your...

My trial -- download.. have a go :)

Some good questions. It reminds me a little of my trial paper, especially in terms of difficulty and type of questions asked.

    Cssa trial exam

Pompeii & Herculaneum - 20/25 Sparta 22/25 Egypt: To the death of Thutmose IV: 21/25 Ok i surpose. In saying that though, i would like to up them to at least 23+

    How to improve bio marks?

Without a doubt you can achieve a band 6 if you study well for the externals. In another sense, don't be too disheartened by your current mark. Your teacher may mark harder than others, so in reality you are most likely higher than you believe. Good luck, hope you achieve that band 6.

    FOOD TECH OR BIOlOGY?

Biology pishes all over Food tech in terms of scaling. Also, those who are less academic tend to take subjects like Food tech (in HSC circumstances). All im saying is don't write yourself off. How you do in year 10 has no reflection on how you'll do in senior years. People and interests change.

How many students get an ATAR over 90?

It varies. Im not sure, but i think it uses the standard deviation method. X-amount of students fall within 13.5% have an atar of 95 for example.

Hmmm should we be helping each other out now for externals??

I believe in helping people out, even when competing with them through internals. Even people im going against for first spot, i still try and help them because i see it as a team effort, and I dislike people who will be sad enough to put ranks in front of friendships. We all have the same...

    Unfair trial Marking?

My teacher marked 'My' paper extremely hard; to the point where i put the right answer, but if it wasn't word perfect, i lost marks or even got a 0 in some circumstances. I know this because having asked another student to look at their paper, their answers didn't even relate to the question...

    Kind of depressed about HSC

I know attaining bad results can be unmotivating, but you have to psych yourself up. Think of it as a motorbike race, your on the final straight, just give it all you have and that's all you can do pal. Personally myself, I have taken a lot from my trials. I have improved my studying...

    ipod touch=off, engaging beast mode=on

Nothing i enjoy it. It speeds up time until i get out of the dump (sydney). But on a serious note, i haven't really given anything up, having a life is important in adjacent to studies.
  18. S

So what have you learnt from your trials?

I learn't not to conjure up information, and create essays 3 hours before my English exam. It's the most depressing feeling, knowing you have to wake up at 4.30am to design and learn an essay in as little as 3ish hours. Other than that, Biology easy, History easy, and Physics i have to read...

What marks do I need to achieve to obtain an atar of ~85

Your subjects scale well, except maybe Art. I reckon if you achieve 80's with a few high-late 70's you will be good for an ATAR of 85. To gather a more accurate estimation; hit up some of those ATAR calculators.
