    2014 Major Work Ideas Needed!!

I know nothing about Ancient Greece, so I can't help you there. However, I can tell you that the best projects, those that get the highest marks, always deal with topics that are focused on the historiography, rather than the actual history, if that makes any sense.

    How is everyone studying?

Reading over my notes, doing past questions...not really much else you can do.

    Is E H Carr considered a "modern" historian/source?

Really? I'd consider E.H. Carr to be a modern historian, along with postmodernists and post-postmodernists. He is believed to have pre-empted postmodernism anyway. If he's not modern, then what is he? Ancient? I hardly think so. Modern should include any historian from around 1950 onwards, which...

    History Extension Predictions

You can't really predict Ext History in my opinion, especially Question 1. The questions are generally similar each year, but it is the sources that you need to worry about, especially since they are such a huge discriminator between an E3 and E4 response.

Extension history for English standard student?

Just as long as you can construct and defend a strong argument, you'll be fine.

    Which historians are everyone using?

For Question 1: Herodotus/Thucydides, Bede/Gibbon, Von Ranke, Annales, Carl Becker, Keith Jenkins, Elton/Carr, Reynolds/Windschuttle and History Wars. I usually end up using between 2-4, depending on the question and the source material. I get a bit paranoid and so try to have a good assortment...

    Peter skrzynecki important question??

This would be a really awkward question for Skryznecki and I feel your pain. I would turn the question on its head and talk about the potential of communities and groups to enrich or challenge the individual. I find this would work a bit better for Skryznecki. Eg... - St Pats - school...

    English Paper 1/2

I'm not at a selective school but we did critics for Hamlet. While they aren't necessary to get into the top band, to paraphrase my teacher, "They can be the icing on the cake if you're already up there". Having said that, you can still easily get a 20/20 without critics.

    What's in History Extension

I've never done Chemistry, but I'm more than happy to give you some advice on Extension History! If you are thinking of a science-based course/career after school, then I'd recommend you keep chemistry because it's recommended for a lot of courses in that area. However, Extension History...

    Belonging Essay Question 2013 PREDICTION

Yes, just like the BoS can ask for two related texts, they can most definitely repeat a theme if they want to. Communities would work brilliantly for Skryznecki.

    Belonging Essay Question 2013 PREDICTION

It could be something like how an individual's own identity creates barriers to belonging... I don't know. I guess we're just going to have to wait and see!

Which subjects should I drop (and pick up) in year 12?

As everybody else seems to be saying, wait a little bit before you make any decisions. I know what it's like, I came into Year 11 knowing what I wanted to drop and pick up. As some advice, maybe wait until you have your report, or at least your yearly exam marks so you can see how you go. Don't...

The way of the Aural skills

HOW TO GET A TOP MARK IN AURAL: HAVE PERFECT PITCH. I have perfect pitch and consistently top the class in aural (I'm the only one with perfect pitch). Everyone else only gets 70% or below.

    Music 2 Sightsinging

Research shows that most people with AP will begin formal musical training before the age of 6. It also shows that AP tends to aggregate among families (I know of a former classmate whose siblings separated by 10 years all have active absolute pitch), suggesting a genetic link. This is...

    Who does Musicianship??

For everyone saying 6th grade is better than 5th grade... Yes, maybe in terms of 'Form and History', but for harmony and aural it's definitely harder. Then again, I got full marks in the aural section (perfect pitch) In 'Form and History' you do Chopin, Schumann and Debussy, and the woodwind...

    First impressions of yr 11

Year 11 is good at the moment. I'm enjoying not having to do PDHPE, Geography or Science. I'm really enjoying the fact that I am able to study pretty much whatever I want, with the exception of English and Studies of Religion (the curse that comes with any Catholic school). Although I'm...
