    Hydroxide ions are formed when a hydrogen ion is removed from water. Can a Hydrogen ion be added to an Oxygen atom to from the hydroxide ion? Or it just doesnt happen?

    Do enzymes denature when they aren't in their optimum pH? Say pepsin, it is most active at a very low pH. Does it mean that it would denature if it was placed in a basic or neutral condition?
