And do you think this is a good enough reason to disadvantage thousands of heritage and background speaker students?

Racial discrimination in HSC language courses

Finally someone other than me dared to point out the pink elephant in the room.

Racial discrimination in HSC language courses

it's free to do HSC, the previous marks do not count towards ATAR (unlike uni GPA). Any ways, we have detracted from the topic. It's about racial discrimination in HSC.

Racial discrimination in HSC language courses

The way I look at it, even if she does screw up her HSC, she can always repeat the subject again next year until we get a good ATAR, or do a internal transfer in uni, if my sister is going to waste 11 years before HSC, might as well just do the HSC.

Racial discrimination in HSC language courses

Because she can get an higher ATAR if she does continuer and she can do three units instead of two for Chinese and Japanese. Who goes through 2 years of HSC to "learn", the goal of HSC is ATAR maximisation so that we can get into uni.

Racial discrimination in HSC language courses

yes, we worked so hard to get her into selective high school and now we have to deal with the board of studies with this background/continuer issue because the principal thinks my sister should do background instead of continuer despite my parents declaration, passport and academic history checks.

Racial discrimination in HSC language courses

Although HSC/ATAR is less blunt than American college selection system where universities would openly take other races over Asians with higher SAT and GPA for the sake of "cultural diversity" and "equal opportunity". I still feel the system is designed to disadvantage Asian background speakers...

Racial discrimination in HSC language courses

Any ways I'll first lodge a complaint with the Anti-discrimination board, see if they will does with the issue. If not, I'll probably start a class action with the Asian community at the federal level see if we can rid of Asian heritage and background courses or apply heritage and background...

Racial discrimination in HSC language courses

Well two issues. 1. Why should Asian background student be disadvantaged by the system if he/she wants to do his/her mother tongue in the HSC. 2. Why should European/Arabic background students get 3 units of credit for basically free?

Racial discrimination in HSC language courses

I don't you're getting my point. We students, same intelligence, same dedication, one is of Japanese background and one is of German background, both are equally fluent in their mother tongue and English. The Japanese will be forced to do background Japanese for just two units, the German...

Racial discrimination in HSC language courses

the system should not disadvantage a certain group of race because there are more people in that race. Plus your reasoning is not valid, the German and Chinese was just example, another example is that there are a lot of more Italians than Japanese in NSW, there are a lot of Europeans...

Racial discrimination in HSC language courses

Why does only Asian languages have heritage and background courses? A children born in China and study there until say year 6, comes to Australia and if he wants to do Chinese in HSC, he must do the harder 2U background course. If a child born in Germany and study there for the same amount...

    Macquarie is so easy!!!

majority of the units in bachelor of applied finance allows cheat sheet, that's from year one to year three.

    Macquarie is so easy!!!

Seriously? Nearly all "technical" units, you can bring a A4 cheat sheet to the final exam? WTF?! In UWS, I had to actually study and memorise to pass the final, in Macquarie, I just transcribe everything during the semester onto the double sided A4 paper in tiny ass writing and "copy and cheat"...
