    Wills and Estates Practice

Just wondering if anyone has done the Wills and Estates Practice as an elective in their GDLP through College of Law? If so - would you recommend steering clear of if if you haven't done wills in the LLB? Or is it manageable without having done so? I am currently in the predicament of having 4...

if u do law first year in another uni does that mean u cant transfer into unsw/usyd?

Re: if u do law first year in another uni does that mean u cant transfer into unsw/us In a word, no :) But make sure you look into the transfer requirements carefully as there are certain requirements as to the marks you need at the first uni to successfully transfer. Also keep in mind that...

Law students and their unwarranted ego.

Re legal aid - like I said, have a look on their website at the info about the graduate program. The rate of pay is there. Also I have worked at legal aid so my view doesn't come just from their ads and website info but also from talking to solicitors while I was working there. I had assumed...

Law students and their unwarranted ego.

"Most law students end up working for legal aid" - actually legal aid's biggest complaint seems to be under-resourced and under-staffed :p I can't tell whether you're serious or not but if you are - have a look at the legal aid websites and other info around, you'll see how untrue that is. And...

Law students and their unwarranted ego.

Original post aside as to be honest, most of the specifics contained there do not warrant an intelligible reply as it would not achieve anything - In so far as the "law isn't harder than other degrees" whinge-fest goes, yes - law is not the most difficult thing on the planet. Many degrees have...

Any point transferring from UWS Law to MQ Law?

The ATM issue, whilst annoying, isn't so bad now as yes they have lowered the minimum payment and cashout limits at the cafe etc And now the library and photocopying etc you do via direct funds transfer through a sort of eftpos system, so you can do without cash if you have to. Additionally -...

For those who didn't get a clerkship...

That's fantastic that you were happy to take unpaid stuff but are getting paid anyway! Kind of like a bonus then since you weren't expecting it :)

For those who didn't get a clerkship...

I wouldn't say easier said than done - it's just a matter of not being too selective and being (within reason) flexible and willing to travel. There are really a lot of legal centres out there - just off the top of my head i can think of Marrickville, Macquarie, Toongabbie, Women's legal...

For those who didn't get a clerkship...

If experience is your main concern - there's an easy remedy for that : volunteer :) Even if you can't spare much time because you need to work elsewhere for money, there's quite a few opportunities to work in legal centres or other pro bono groups on a very casual basis. Eg - Toongabbie Legal...

    criminal law - where?

In that regard also I would say that to keep in mind too that it's not impossible to move into those fields having done a non-law degree that isn't commercially oriented and vice versa. Eg I did a business degree but have no intention of going in corporate-related legal fields. And I know of a...

    criminal law - where?

Further to what MelSC said about criminology combining with law: By no means do you need to do so to become a criminal law. I am yet to encounter a criminal lawyer who took that path. In fact, my current boss did the Social Science (criminology)/ B Laws degree and is now working in family law...

    UNSW vs UWS Law

Further to what Mel said - Yes, I know these examples are far fewer than those found in other unis - but keep in mind the less than fantastic opinion some have of UWS, it's relatively short history and so on - if your idea of 'success' is based on top tier firms, associateships and so on -->...

    UNSW vs UWS Law

To the OP - What do you want to do with your law degree? What kind of student would you say you are? i.e. committed, lazy, self motivated, reliant on peer pressure and competition etc? What modes/types of learning are you more suited to? Are you aiming for/do you need to rely on...

how hard is it to get into UWS?

Why do you keep asking variations of this question? You should find something more constructive to do with your time or reconsider your intended academic path if you really do need to keep asking over and over and over and over...

    Good enough for UWS ?

To make sure people are clear - this isn't unique to UWS. Lots of unis let people in below the cut-off for various reason, so this is in no way something that makes UWS lesser (not saying that's what you're implying, but a lot of people seem to draw that conclusion :))

    law without legal studies

To be honest - it's not an advantage. I did legal studies in high school and everything I learned i re-learned again at some stage at uni, and in some cases what i learned in legal studies was 'corrected' at uni. Don't worry if you didn't do it - it's more useful to see whether you have an...

    Good enough for UWS ?

It's not just the ranking that counts... your marks do too... Rankings are more important, but your marks aren't completely meaningless. Eg - being ranked 100 out of 150 but having a mark of 90 will be far different from being ranked 100 out of 150 with a mark of 50 :)
  19. L

    Good enough for UWS ?

It's not as simple as just switching because you want to, especially if you're changing from one college/ school to another that is completely unrelated. You should read the uni policies more before giving this sort of 'advice' to people.

Most Outstanding Year 11 Student Scholarship

I highly doubt that you can use bonus points to reach the 90. They pick the 90 barrier because it is seen as identifying a certain level of achievement, so it would seem odd if they would allow you to be considered as reaching 90 with bonus points... But if you're in year 11 now - you have...
