"..growing number of law schools .. around the world that have moved to a JD.."

Either you're overly argumentative or you are a troll. In either case I'm not going to bother arguing over my honest word. You may continue battling the scarecrow if you wish.

A post into which you are reading specifics about Melbourne uni and ivy league institutions. I mention no such thing. It largely relates to universities I am in close contact with like UNSW and USyd - simple as that. It is not a universally observed trend.

The School where everyones a genius

I'm unsurprised (that the secret to getting into an institution for which entry is competitive is to perform well in the entry exam).

Straw man argument: I never stated this, I have stated explicitly that I did not intend to convey this message, and still you argue this point. Are you reading my posts??

"..growing number of law schools .. around the world that have moved to a JD.."

No, you're incorrect. It was a loosely connected observation which had very little to do with the core argument.

I realise that cvMail doesn't directly distinguish between undergraduate and graduate degrees. I did register, which is why I was able to provide an algorithm which would more effectively identify graduate students, i.e. limit applications to: (1) Applicants from universities offering...

No, he's arguing the same thing. You seem to be making a straw man argument against my aside regarding general changes that I have observed (in Australian universities - I know very little about the ivy league world). Your ivy league-related points have little to do with this, and nothing to...

"..growing number of law schools .. around the world that have moved to a JD.."

But it's a faulty generalisation since there exist graduate LLB programs. The relevant search would be between undergraduate and graduate programs. Surely they could limit applicantions to (1) those coming from universities offering graduate law and (2) those from students who commence in year X...

"..growing number of law schools .. around the world that have moved to a JD.."

Adding to that: It irks me partly because I see it as part of a general trend to bypass quality of education in favour of fancy degree titles, fast-tracked degrees, artifically inflated grades and inflexible, but beaurocratically simpler, degree requirements (why on earth should I have to...

"..growing number of law schools .. around the world that have moved to a JD.."

You don't seem to be quite addressing the point that both PwarYeux and I are making. We're pushing the 'rose by any other name' argument - the degree title doesn't mean squat. The quality and nature of the degree program itself is what counts. It is fine to argue for the value of graduate...

    Philosophy

Logic rocks my socks. Without using universal/existential instantiation you could also show that 2 contradicts 3 using standard tautologies: 2.........~(∀x)(Fx ⊃ Gx) 2.1.........(∃x)~(~Fx ∨ Gx) 2.2.........(∃x)(Fx & ~Gx) (which contradicts 3 - reductio ad absurdum, etc...)

    goodbye from law forum

Your unreadable font will be missed.

Show evidence of study prior to law, or simply say 'mine was a graduate program'?

    Mouthwash Linked To Cancer.

Stats exist to show that oral cancer risk in the setting of smoking + alcohol > risk in the setting of alcohol alone. Any claims which try to excuse tobacco will be ill-researched (until they can find a molecular biological / genetic argument pertaining to susceptible populations and what have you).

    Mouthwash Linked To Cancer.

The link between alcohol and oral cancer has been known for some time (maybe a 6 times increased risk?). It makes sense that such an association would exist with alcohol-containing mouthwash.

"..growing number of law schools .. around the world that have moved to a JD.."

Aye, so it does, but you achieve such things by altering entry criteria or changing the course from undergraduate to graduate, not by including 'doctor' in the degree title. The article presents a fairly hollow debate (for JD vs LLB): - There may be a (very) modest effect on employment...

    Sex lessons for 10-year-olds?

In year 5/6 (I was 11, others would have been either 10 or 12) we had a cross-sectional, anatomically correct picture of a penis inside a vagina. We were taught about basic contraception as well as women's sanitary products. There were also STD warnings if I remember correctly. It was all...

How hard is it to maintain a WAM of 80 in medicine?

Also, from eyeing the data set, it would seem that in the majority of cases a score 1.645 SD above the mean is > 80, such that the top 10% (~54 students) are receiving 80 or more.

How hard is it to maintain a WAM of 80 in medicine?

What follows is a set of mean marks (out of 100) and standard deviations for some of the recent phase 1 exams in UNSW medicine: Mean ... SD 67........ 9.4 65.6 ... 10.5 67.3 .... 8.1 64.2 .....11.7 65.1 .... 10.9 63.4 .... 9.8 Assuming normal distribution that means that the top 5% scored...
