    Gay marriage in NSW/Australia

Beazley is wrong. It is not a matter "properly for the states and territories". Section 51(xxi) of the Constitution is quite clear: It is a matter within the power of the Commonwealth.

    Gay marriage in NSW/Australia

One can only speculate as to the government's true motives, but personally I think that the ACT laws were inconsistent with the existing Federal marriage laws (however morally reprehensible those laws are).

    Gay marriage in NSW/Australia

While Ruddock's legal basis for removing the law had nothing to do with the constitution, he's just giving a justification for exercising his powers. He's basically saying "Yeah well, it's probably unconstitutional anyway." (Debatable) Obviously he doesn't have to go through the process of...

Questions to People With a Religion/No Religion.

Now I remember why I stopped posting in this subforum.

Questions to People With a Religion/No Religion.

Yes, my intelligence is forever tainted and my ego irreparably damaged. Oh how shall I ever go on.

Questions to People With a Religion/No Religion.

I prefer to call it a decline of religion rather than a "rise of atheism", but ok. I'll answer the questions but I would suggest that you don't turn this into a huge discussion about the existence of God. There is already another thread on that topic and Generator does not need to be looking...

    Gay marriage in NSW/Australia

Normally, a State or Territory simply brings an application in the original jurisdiction of the High Court. However, in this case the Governor-General (effectively the government) is exercising a power under s 35 of the ACT Self-Government Act which allows the GG to disallow an enactment within...

    Nebuchanezzar's Signature...

This thread has gone on long enough. There is nothing constructive going on here.

Which University is good for B Law/(something)

You actually can't transfer to USYD or UNSW after more than 1 year of tertiary study, both universities have a specific rule against it.

    general UNSW chit-chat

Not true. There is a very logical reason for this. The law library is not just an empty room. It contains books and materials strictly relevant to our subjects. We cannot go to other places to access them. That is why the place is reserved for us to work in. With respect, you have your own...

    general UNSW chit-chat

Unless you're a law student, no.

The Official 2006 FIFA World Cup thread.

Depends whether I get appointed to judicial office ;)

The Official 2006 FIFA World Cup thread.

The point was not for the benefit of others. It was to prevent you from making the same mistake again.

The Official 2006 FIFA World Cup thread.

I think you mean the Netherlands.

    Mooting?

Yes there is a Beginner's competition at UNSW, for first years. But take note: mooting is unlike debating. If debaters get up there and start acting like it is a debate, they will get shut down quite quickly. It is more a formal conversation than a speech.

Which University is good for B Law/(something)

Information on the calculations used when estimating your chances of transferring to law is available here.

    Does God exist?

Just to be clear, agnosticism isn't about the likelihood of belief. It's about the limits of knowledge. It is an epistemological position that says that we do not, or cannot, have knowledge of the existence of god. Technically one can be a theistic agnostic or an atheistic agnostic.

Judges are more likely to make just outcomes than juries. Do

My comment on the matter would be that you should do some work on that essay question you've copied and pasted into the thread title, put forward some of your own views, and let us respond to them. Without expressing the remotest hint of interest in or effort towards the topic, it smacks of...
