Bolded part... Not possible. Stop using anecdotal evidence to support your claims. The fact is that every year roughly the same amount of people get 95+ atar and 90+ atar and 50+ atar. Also the percentage of band 6's stays relatively constant between years as well. I got 93.25 atar with 0 da's...

Sweet thanks so much for the reply. Yeah I'm thinking that since I'm not that interested in doing an economics based job, I might just do straight commerce and major in finance/accounting.

That's true but I still stand by saying that it's mostly effort that will get you the atar you are aiming for. The point I am making is quite evident in the failure of both the OP and riproot to achieve their desired atar

Yeah I just finished the hsc this year. Tbh tho I'm much more interested in finance than accounting. Is it still best to just do commerce by itself if you are looking at a finance career. Also commerce is a 4 year degree right? If I did a double degree with it, doesn't it just become 5 years...

So are you saying I should aim to complete my degree ASAP?

Nope Atars are a rank! Every year 48 people received 99.95 atar. There is 48 people per 0.05 atar. Also a band 6 in physics/chem goes to 98 atar ussually. It's the same as every year.

I think I heard 84 was last years. This years looks like it was ~75 considering I got 72/73 raw and ended up with 89

You are using last years data to get to that number (unless you used an atar calc which used the very recently produced tables bu UAC). Anyway you should keep that atar equivalent but I'm not 100% sure.

Not exactly true... This years 2 unit test was the hardest since 2003 imo and is reflected by the aligning. Last years 2 unit test was one of the easiest ones and needed a much higher raw to get a band 6. The cut off for this year looks like 75/100 while last years was 84/100.

Got 91 exam mark in Eco... No band 6 because of assessment mark of 87 :(

How do you know? Which table did you look at? Also how was Eco scaling?
