Using other prescribed texts as related texts?

You can do it. But I would suggest not doing it, as it may seem as if you are "double-dipping". The whole idea of choosing your related texts is going out there, reading widely and seeing if it applies to your module. I think it goes against the spirit of the syllabus if you are merely getting...

    Drafts completed?

I FINISHED MY FIRST DRAFT. IT'S COMPLETE! (so happy).
  3. Z

So...who here still hasn't come up with a first draft?

Hey. I've done around 6000 words. Don't worry too much. Last year, everybody handed in drafts AFTER these holidays and all of them got top bands at my school. ^^

whats everyone doing for their major works?

I've finished mine. I examined how historiographical approaches to Vichy France's involvement in the Holocaust have changed since 1945.

    WW1 trials help

All the things it says under "Students learn..." in the syllabus.

    Why is 0^0 undefined?

    Because 0 =/= 1.

    the historicity of jesus christ

I would have loved to have done this topic. Anything apart from Elizabeth. :headbang:

    UAI expectations

People do change. My friend once said (and she was lazy at the time) that she would be happy with 83. This year, she received a UAI estimate of 95-96 (and she wasn't content with this), and stated that 93 was low. LOL. But I had to nag her a lot.

Rates of Change/Newtons Law of Cooling

    Re: 回复: Re: Rates of Change/Newtons Law of Cooling Population = P + Ae^(-kt) That's the standard formula you'd use for this kind of question. Population = 32000 + Ae^(-kt) When t = 0, P = 4.9*10^7 From that, find k. Once you've found k, plug t = 5 into the question to find how much bacteria...

    Writing a good response

What is this for? AOS comprehension? I think that writing succinctly comes with practice.

James Ruse are cheaters and the BOS do not care.

I know a lot of people who go to around 4-5 tutors, and yet they don't get top marks. It depends on the individual. I'm willing to suggest that most people who do tutoring are forced into it by their parents, and therefore it's not as beneficial as everyone is saying.

    3-4 minute speeches

500 words. I don't understand the rationale of 3-4 minute speeches. Some schools do it, but a speech around the 7-10 minute mark seems ideal to me IMO. More time to flesh out your ideas.

    essay lengths ??

My max is pretty much 1000-1100 words. I need to write a bit faster. 1200 is a good length. Teacher expects 1400. Not going to happen, no matter how much I try.

    Am I being over-assessed?!?!

Well, there's nothing you can do about it. It benefits you in the end: you get more work and more feedback. So heads down and work :)

    Does God exist?

For the atheists out there: Who/what started the universe? :S It was started somehow. Matter/energy did not come into existence just like that.

Dropping Modern then down to 10 Units...Thoughts?

Man, what is up with your school? lol
  17. Z

    30-second buffer

Different schools different system... at my school, there's a 10% buffer (for English)

What do you want to be when you grow up? Plans for after the HSC?

Med at UNSW. And then, I want to set up an aid organisation or be part of one... World Vision? I don't know. MSF sounds good. Doctor + Christian missionary? Maybe. I just want to do something to benefit the world.

Elite school students get more special help in HSC

5-10 minutes is a long time, especially in an exam where you could earn a lot of marks in that little extra period.
