What would be the best End-Of-HSC anthem?

    1. Queen - We Are the Champions OR 2. Queen - We Will Rock You It's surprising how everyone knows the tune of these songs, but can never seem to recall the lyrics. I have a thing for anthem, marchy type songs. Boyz II Men also have very mournful-longing-for-the-past type tunes, if that's more...

What do your teachers think of us???

My Ancient History teacher was surprised that there was a Bored of Studies site and found it very amusing. When I told him about it, he thought I was talking about the Board of Studies and wondered how I was going to get information for my assignment there.

Is writing 1037 words in 50 minutes for an Economics essay acceptable?

One of our economics teacher told our class he's marked 20 page (standard-size papers) essays for the HSC which have received a 18/20, but then again he's also marked ones that were only 6-pages long that got full marks. So, if your essay is straight to the point like you said, then it should...

ever feel that you did well in a test but did bad? or felt bad and did good?

But he was confident, thus probably expecting 90+. I always experience this dilemma after completing any form of assessable work, including tests, assignments and assessments. If I feel confident about a test in a subject I usually perform well in, my results usually are, as expected, good...

Tips on getting into a selective school for yr 11

In answering your question about availability of placements in Year 11, I know some selective schools such as Hurlstone Agricultural, open up a whole new class for new students, which is good for new entrants into the selective stream, but consider the fact that there are only about 24 people...

    Exam moods/thoughts/assumptions/confidence levels etc

If I have studied for a specific subject, then usually I'd be quite confident when I am doing the test, especially when I come across a question which I can recall studying specifically for. However, this exuberance of confidence has made me inclined to feel paranoid when it seems I am doing a...

How many units for yr 11?

I am doing 14 units because the arrangements of the subjects on the lines and timetable were not suited to my preferences, and also because I was a little indecisive and wanted to do a few subjects. There are advantages to this because I can try out the subjects and drop the ones I am not...

    Favourite word(s)

Enigma 1. a puzzling or inexplicable occurrence or situation: His disappearance is an enigma that has given rise to much speculation. 2. a person of puzzling or contradictory character: To me he has always been an enigma, one minute completely insensitive, the next moved to tears. 3. a...

    Hey - Study Patterns

Ach yes, but studying that much is very tiring and could be counter-productive if the student does not take a break. :) To shoutoutloud: The average human has an attention span of about 20 - 25 minutes, so studying in blocks over a period of time is more ideal than four hours flat out.

How long do you study a day?

I do about 2 hours, and usually more on weekends. Trying to get into the habit for the HSC, and not have the 'it's only Year 11' mindset.

How many words can you write in 40 minutes?

I think I can manage 700 - 1000 depending on my state of mind and how quickly I can summon ideas. If I were to write the word 'essay' over and over for 40 minutes...

    Talent 100

I emailed them about the fees back when I had an interest: $900 for the term for class and tutorial (less 10% for upfront payment for the year) $600 for the class-only option (less 15% for upfront payment for the year) Equates to $3600 a year if you take the class and tutorial option, and...

    whats your record...?

Agreed. I'm constantly feeling disappointed because I procrastinate too much, or waste time in class. I usually am able to get the set task done anyway, and get a good mark. Then, I'd look back and think 'What if I did the same amount of work I did in the last two days consistently for the two...

Rate the use of technology at your school.

We have limited technology at our school. There's lots of computers, and lots of recently bought laptops, all of which lag like hell. :mad1: (I hear the internet speed is over 100mb/sec but when you're sharing that on a network with a few hundred students...) There's an intranet which provides...

    Self-tuition thread

I'd just like to know, how do we apply for this? Just start not going to school? Imagine...not having to do school assessments/assignments. If I had the self-discipline to apply myself to my studies, I'd probably consider doing this. But there are advantages to having a...

    Study periods

Jeez. I don't get any study periods :mad1: and I think if I did, I'd probably waste my time and run around screaming and laughing. (which is what my friends do and I can hear them during my Ext English class)

    whats your record...?

I think the latest I have stayed up is 2 am, and that was for some assignment in Year 9 or 10. The latest I've had to stay up this year was 11.30pm because I've improved my time managerial skills. =)

does ANYBODY enjoy their text for english?

I quite enjoyed Mudrooroo's Wild Cat Falling (Advanced) and Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice (Ext. 1). Currently, we are analysing Sigfried Sassoon (who indirectly led to the death of Oliver Wilde) and his poems in class, which are actually very good. Our next study will be the lyrics of...

    Stress

Are you being pressured by family or teachers? Because you have got to relax. First off, it's extremely unhealthy for a human to be constantly working; psychologists and doctors estimate that the brain needs at least 20 minutes of time to think and 'sort things out', which is why some stressed...
