If its common sense you probably don't need to reference it. If it's your own critical thinking or analysis again you don't need to reference it. But as a rule of thumb try reference as much as you can as it adds credibility to your argument.

It's okay to do them whenever. I reckon splitting them up through the years with tougher subjects makes things a bit easier. I know some actuarial students have done this

I think you just hit the nail on the head. We get a mark and grade at the end of the semester but may not necessarily get both for individual assessments.
