You have to be aware that many teachers are not very well acquainted with the scaling procedures that take place.
I don't think it's a threat. They just probably don't know and made a wild guess.
lou071, your information is quite flawed. You will have to differentiate between scaled mark and scaling. Strictly speaking, English (Advanced) > ESL > English (Standard) in terms of SCALED MARKS. However, in terms of scaling, English (Advanced) and English (Standard) both have same scaling. At...
Yes, you are correct. But there are just too much effort to provide all levels of English. At least those schools may have been providing that course for a long time in the past but starting a new course doesnt' simply mean getting students, it also means getting all these books, classrooms...
You forgot ESL (English as a Second Language).
Yes they should because schools must meet the demands of different individuals but interest of individuals sometimes need to be limited for the sake of the majority (may sound selfish but that's how the world rolls unfortunately).
So, even...
I am not sure how our brief conversation went into this matter but you are wrong about permanent residency. There are people who gained permanent residency BEFORE they came to Australia. I myself came to Australia with mys family and we already had permanent residency back then. So I just had to...
Well you misquoted me then. I was making a post in relation to English (Standard) specifically and after your response (to my quote), I thought you were talking about English (Standard).
However, that's still not totally correct. There are great numbers of immigrants who come to Australia...
Well, that's right. They are Australian citizens but it does not mean that they are supposed to do English (Advanced) because of that. There are roughly about 30000 students who do English (Standard) and you will see most of them are Australian citizens themselves (well they are Australians)...
That's not quite true. Many Selective High Schools such as Ruse, NSBH, NSGH, SGH, SBH that I have come across haven't provided ESL and English (Standard).
Even private school like Sydney Grammar doesn't provide ESL or English (Standard) I heard.
It's important to note that there are great...
There are many reasons why you were recommended to do English (Advanced) over English (Standard), here is the list:
Your desired uni course might have English (Advanced) as either assumed or recommended study
You might be doing English Extension
There is a stigma attached to doing...
I am not entirely sure that I understand this. What do you mean? Band 6 = 90+ ALIGNED. Band x refers to the aligned mark, not the raw mark. 80 raw can give you band 6 depending on the raw cut-off.
That's not true. Keep in mind that both English have the same scaling procedures taken into...
No, doing ESL won't necessarily have negative impact on your UAI. It is up to how you perform in the subject. However, it will potentially limit your chance towards certain degrees such as Medicine and other courses that have English (Standard) or English (Advanced) as assumed or recommended...
Nope 99 was not a state rank, at least not for everyone. I know coupe who didn't get state rank with 99 despite scoring 99 and 99 internall and externally.
So 99 didn't guarantee you a state rank. That proves that 119 =/= 99 alone basically, rather it's more like 118-119 = 99 at least.
I doubt 1-2 raw marks have incurred 1-2 aligned marks.
If I assume that 120/120 = 100 aligned which is probably true, 98 aligned would be about 115-117.
I personally know some people who reckon they got about 118 on the paper (they lost 2 marks somewhere definitely) and they were ranked...
That's an interesting perspective. But as I said earlier, it's just too difficult to estimate a raw cut-off from people's opinions alone and I guess it's just too difficult to estimate what is required for band 6 in general. However, I appreciate your input. That made me think again about...
You will be surprised how so many people around the state answer so well for q 9 and 10 but make a stupid mistake before that.
2008 HSC shows basically that.
There was one question about series and sequence and that question basically caught many people by surprise. While they answered q 9...
Whether General is harder or not, we need to be aware of some facts... scaling is reflective of the overall calibre of the students in the course, not taking into account of the difficulty of the course.
It doesn't matter if the course is more difficult or easier because scaling doesn't...
I don't think that will be necessary. It's not like 26th of Janurary was the start of Aboriginal discrimination. It was a great day when our ancestors came down to this great land to start a new colony which we can be proud of. Aboriginal discrimination is another issue that unfortunately...
