Back then, 30 minutes in the morning by bus. 10 minutes by taxi at night. In my office I think only one person lived in the CBD. Everyone else lived inner city. These days I drive in to the CBD and try to avoid the morning rush and leave around 9:30 so it takes around 20 minutes including...
No one, hence I don't buy one.
But if you do business in certain parts of of the world, sometimes small things like that are necessary.
Ever wonder why real estate agents drive luxury cars, especially when they sell expensive properties?
Exactly. I don't know what these kids are smoking. I spent $5k I think in my first year at ibank (living at home admittedly). I don't even have time to go out to drink and when I do I'm so tired I just wanted to sleep.
Let's see...
Jan-July: did nothing but work til 2am everyday, caught taxis...
An ibanker in my days makes around $95-105k base + 70-80% bonuses. Bonuses are probably around 40-50% now at a big bank so you'll end up with around $150-160k. After tax + super that's around $100k. If you can't save $70k from making $100k net you have some serious problems dude.
And why...
Yes it helps. But saving say $70k in your first year and then another $80k in your second year doesn't open up that much opportunities... What you think you're going to do in real estate with $150k hmm?
I've been there, done that, done it better than what most here aspire to do probably -...
Like actually using your brain and putting it to some entrepreneurial use. There're so many ways to make money. Working in a job for money ranks pretty low in terms of payoff.
Oh absolutely. Some of these figures look amazing. Like $1.5m for a VP who might be 29 or even $20m+ for MD at say 38. If you've been in the industry for a while you'll know that's much rarer these days especially in Australia. If you bank on yourself being one of them and therefore get in to...
Not enough to make it worthwhile. So many ways to make more money than the figures you're talking about, especially for the hours you put in and the age required to hit these types of salaries on average.
There are even some 27 year old 1st year M&A analysts every now and then and they think...
IB is an equally tedious way to make $$, albeit slightly better.
There're 29 year olds out there buying $40m with their own hands (nope, no inheritance). Or 29 year olds out there with 72 houses (self-made again). If money was your goal, you should be finding out how to emulate these people...

Agreed. Easy to find out who though I would've thought since I'd know most of her managers.
Re: Will part-time job experience help get a job after completing a commerce/eco degr
You must be talking about some middle-office or back-office role or some unlucrative front office role like PWM or Asset Management.
Re: Will part-time job experience help get a job after completing a commerce/eco degr
I would look at it in 10 seconds and see if anything caught my eye, like Cadet to Elizabeth II, shoeboy for PRC General of North East Armies. As mentioned, if I only saw KFC and McDonalds I would throw it out...
