    UNSW chit chat thread

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2016 It's a bit longer than that since you can't take the shortcuts. Lower to upper for me is something like 10 minutes.

    Physics/Astrophysics/Particle Physics

Make sure you do extension 2, Physics and Chemistry. Then focus on doing very well in your undergraduate studies in whatever field of science you wish to heavily pursue at uni. Then enter postgraduate studies and work under a few supervisors who would happily take you along for their research...

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2016 Looking at the map, just walk from upper campus down Wansey (beware light rail works) and turn left when you get to Alison road and keep walking until you get there. Walk is like 15-20 mins

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2016 Course by course basis I know that higher maths and physics in first year (ok maybe not PHYS1231 since less than 40% of the cohort actually do PHYS1221) definitely scale (some more obviously than others) but I'm not sure what happens with the non-higher courses.

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2016 Nah they scale really well. Back in my day, Doust said highest mark comes from about one or two students getting around 72/80.

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2016 Turn right when walking along Doncaster into Ascot street at the roundabout and check if the gate is open (I've only ever exited after exams this way and sometimes the fence latch is closed from the outside).

What science to drop for year 12?

If your maths is solid enough then you can get by in most fields of engineering (main exceptions are electrical, photovoltaic, nuclear where you can do some catching up in your own time but no major issues there). You could wait and see it out if you really wanted to. Otherwise, drop whatever...

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2016 yeah fx-82au fx-100au etc have hyperbolic and inverse hyperbolic functions and are permitted Or you can also just use the identities of the hyperbolic functions too in the exam

    FINS1613 past papers

Btw just a heads up. Don't ask about anything in reference to past papers to any of the academics or tutors of the course. Someone got destroyed by the head tutor before. I had quite a laugh.

    UNSW/USYD 2016 vs UOW 2017?

Is the scholarship worth it? UNSW offers a B(Mechanical)/M(Biomedical) Engineering program which may seem suitable for you if you want to research in prosthetics later on. http://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate/programs/2014/3683.html If you are going to study at UoW next year, will...

    MC Question...

Yeah BOSTES also says answer is A. Idk who thought a galvanometer's readings are based off the voltage. It's supposed to be based off the current. I'd still say that B is the correct answer. Your teacher probably said more than that.

    MC Question...

Answer is actually B. P_p = P_s = V_pI_p = V_sI_s \\ \\ \frac{V_p}{V_s} = \frac{I_s}{I_p} = \frac{N_p}{N_s} To increase secondary coil current, you need to either decrease secondary turns, increase primary turns or both. Or you could also increase the magnitude of the voltage source at the...

    Trial

Nah it's just that to make the most out of doing well in trials, you should look at the trials that your school has done in previous years. Also, you might run out of practice questions for the HSC once you get closer to the HSC. Nothing particularly wrong. It just isn't as strategic.
