The Official "Argue with waf" Thread

Don't you think extremism is a worry Waf? I mean extremist communists and extremist free marketists. Within the context of history fundementalists of any particular political or religious persuasion have never been good for society. The free market and the winding back of the state can't be...

The Official "Argue with waf" Thread

You seem to assume that people are perfect utiltarians who always choose to maximise their ultility. I think it's pretty well recongised that that certainly isn't the case. In any case I wasn't appealing to emotion. The market doesn't give a fuck about your emotions or how you feel. It...

The Official "Argue with waf" Thread

Come on Waf? A completly deregulated labour market? A job is a persons life. A totally deregulated market would mean that employers and employees could sack whenever the market puts a squeeze on their profits. Surely a balanced labour market is better than one that is totally controlled by...

The Official "Argue with waf" Thread

Market principles are nice and work well in areas that are truly amenable to the market. As everyone knows there are winners and loosers in the market. You impede the market you make the winners win less and the loosers loose less. Whats better? Bigger winners and bigger loosers or smaller...

    Question about UNSW Arts.

I enjoyed my three years if arts at unsw (pol sci major). ANU probably beats them all for pol sci, especially in the area of international relations.

    Law degrees "useless"

Trust me, it is well recognised that the costs of running a law school are much much much less than what is required to run science, engineering and med.

    Law degrees "useless"

We get to read most of the Corporations Act (Fun  ) plus the jurisprudence so that you understand the basis for the law.

    Law degrees "useless"

You read this as me saying that you need a law degree to be a CFO. Which was not what I said. You didn't read it carefully. Therefore I'm NOT copying what you said.

    Law degrees "useless"

Not what com/law people tell me. But results may differ from person to person. We might as well pack up and go home! This trying to law stuff is just stupid!

    Law degrees "useless"

I didn't say that had to have law degrees did I? Regardless, they must have a knowledge of corporate law. They can either get that through their law degree or through some other method (I believe Accounting majors do a bit of corporate law).

    Law degrees "useless"

There you go. Not a generalisation but a widely recongised face. Never suggested that. I'm not really intent on world domination. My definition of rich and comfortable is less than the millions. To be a CFO you would need a law degree or some knowledge of corporate law. Some people find...

    Favourite Hangout spots on campus

The best lawn to sit and have a talk with whoever you choose to talk with is the admin lawn. No one is ever there and its less crowdy than the library lawn.

    Law degrees "useless"

We love 2nd year (?) com students who have stars in their eyes and dreams of being hotshot investment bankers with no knowledge of corporate law. In relation to generalisations. I think its a recognised fact that that investment bankers who make massive amounts of money don't actually have...

    Law degrees "useless"

You forgot to mention that investment bankers never go home and sleep at their desk. While lawyers work long hours they actually, most of the time, get to go home.

    Law degrees "useless"

Making sweeping generalisations in order to rebut someone's elses sweeping generalisation (which was obviously not to be taken seriously) isn't very clever.

Re: New UNSW Law building Who is 'they'? Did you mean 'than'? Is your first sentence a question? What? Who is having these debates? Law students or some other group of people? *Science student gets overly excited and cannot clearly express what he is talking about* It shows. While many...
