I have my own system: Mathematics falls under 3 categories: 1. HSC Syllabus 2. Cool Math (Too hard) 3. Boring Math (Too easy) That just about covers everything I think?

I skip meals to study maths that's outside of the syllabus.

Aaahhhh!! Chain Rule! I didn't think it was necessary. So, in summary: If y=tan^-1[F(x)], then: dy/dx= f'(x)/{1+[f(x)]² } ?

I feel sick. I'm having so much trouble with simple questions like this. In the solutions they appear to be using the product rule. Why ? I thought the solution to this was: 1/[1+(x/x+1)²] + 1/[1+(1/2x+1)²] (unsimplified)
