    Algorithms...

There is no formal rule, so something along the lines of myarray is an array of integers indexed from 0 to 120 myrecord is a record of a: string b: integer c: real END myrecord myarrayofrecords is an array of myrecords indexed from 0 to 10 etc

    Yr12 Major Work Suggestions

this is true, but consider - (1) learning curve (2) time constraints in year 12, I would say it is better not to have to be concerned with getting over what may be a steep (even too steep a) learning curve in order to produce something which you don't really want to become solely focussed on

Best way to learn the SDD syllabus

then you will be good at pseudocode algorithms - the failure of many students.

    Approved Programming Languages

And Delphi [Pascal] is hideously expensive and perhaps the learning curve it too steep.

    SDD 2003 HSC Standards Package

which is despite the fact the we had to sign away our copyright to the Board of Studies when sitting the exam, to which I took exception, not that one can do anything. I find it a little silly that they discontinued the series. It was useful and they invested significantly in it - consider...

    for..next loops in the hsc

And many compilers will dereference it after the loop has completed it any case. Some even make it illegal to refer to a counted loop variable outside the counted loop. indeed, but this isn't really a practical concern seeing as most environments provide standard break/exit loop (and...

    Preliminary notes

Well if you see it that way it begs the question why not just do it once through at half the speed? or even once through at regular speed?

    Preliminary notes

Sure it is, just worded differently or with emphasis on different things. Excepting your option topic, is there anything entirely new you're doing in Year 12 over Year 11?

    for..next loops in the hsc

It's a war of Pascal against BASIC in the Board of Studies!

    for..next loops in the hsc

we were always told no. but then then you see example after example that does use them, and then you wonder. Better to be safe than sorry I suppose; I think it would be safe to say you wouldn't be penalised for not using it.

    EBNF/BNF Form

for your particular example, what it really means to indicate (I think) is Exponent = E[+|-] which allows E, E+ or E- (how an exponent would be written). Your inference Exponent = (E[+]) | (E[-]) The way is is written also allows this but it seems a bit redundant. But from the way...

    storing records

Yes it's a misnomer because you use it to return the number of characters in the string, but that isn't the size of it, whereas for a record it will return its size for purposes of block reading/writing it. So in Delphi, which generally makes more sense for such things, the length of a...
