    Determinant factorisation

    Hi, to anyone that knows tricks of determinant evaluation how would you do these questions? i) factorise | 1 1 1 | | x y z | |x^3 y^3 z^3 | ii) deduce the factors of | 1 1 1 1 | | x y z w | |x^2 y^2 z^2 w^2 | |x^4 y^4 z^4...

    strange volumes Q

Hey, nice question (volumes was my favourite 4U topic, it always seems like magic) and nice solution as well. A useful trick in questions with parabolas is to remember that Simpson's rule is exact for parabolas. So for your parabolas parallel to minor axis going through points...

    2002 UAI's

99.85 Yay! 1st in the state in 3U maths and third in Software. It was only English (88) that stopped me from getting higher. But oh well, I only needed 83 to do what I wanted (Science / Info Tech at University of Queensland) so it was all academic anyway.

    Anybody top a subject?

I do 4U maths, Phys, Chem, SDD & Adv. English. Go ahead and stereotype me, but I'm not that much of a freak. UPDATE: I called up the BOS again (they're going to pay for my flight, but not my parents) and was told that I shouldn't tell anyone except my parents. So, to anyone reading this, keep...

    Anybody top a subject?

Na, didn't tell me any marks. But when I left the exam I though I was a chance for 100% and you probably need that to come first. Yeah I do 4U, but I wasn't quite as confident about my performance in that exam. Hopefully I'll still do well.

    Anybody top a subject?

I came first in the state in 3U Maths. Got a phone call at about 9:30 this morning. Chick from the board of studies confirmed who I was (had to give student number) then told me I came first. I'm coming down to Sydney on thursday for the presentation. Anyone else going to be there? I'll be the...

    chemical formulas

Well usually its OK but if they say (for example) "name the ester produced" you need to write the full name. To be safe put them both, if its anything like physics you'll have the time to.

Ascham trial: Lenz's law induction question

Hi, anyone want to explain question 23 of the Ascham 2002 trial: A square sheet of aluminium is held horizontally and then dropped so that it enters a vertical uniform magnetic field. It then leaves the field and continues to fall to the floor. Draw a graph showing the acceleration of the...

    Multiple choice answers

    OK, here's my effort. I'm usually good at M/C but some of these were pretty ambiguous. 1C 2D 3B 4A 5D 6B 7D 8C 9B 10D 11A 12B 13C 14D 15A 16C 17C 18B 19C 20C Feel free to disagree with any of those, but I was most dubious about 3,6,8,15 and 17 (How would I know what a...

    Mistake On Question Part B!!!

no. (ii) of part B, question 7 was indifferentiable as 2c0 and 2cn-1 can never be equal, thus impossible to integrate or differenitate without binometric equations!! i can prove it on my calcualtor so when i get my test back im gona ring up the board of studies guy and show him hes a dick...

    WhoA!

I liked it a lot, think I could have got close to 100%. Some of it was hard but it was the sort of hard stuff I'm good at. For anyone that's wondering for 7b. i) differentiate both sides of binomial expansion and then add this to binomial expansion with x=1 ii) integrate binomial expansion...

    We love probability!!

    Agree with blackjack about part i) Here's my go at part ii) If you have 2A's and 3B's (A,B arbitrary) either A > B 2A's 2B's one joker hands = 5C2 * 5C2 * 1 = 100 3A's 2B's hands = 5C3 * 5C2 = 100 OR A < B 3A's 2B's hands = 5C3 * 5C2 = 100 (can't have joker because A < B...

James Ruse Trial - how it should have looked

C'mon, thats a bit harsh telling me what I can and can't get. I got 87% in my trial and I've done a bit of work since then, so I don't see why I couldn't. Still I am assuming I got 15/15 for MC :) (anyone got the MC answers?) and maybe they did mark really hard. Martin

James Ruse Trial - how it should have looked

This is how the question should have looked, something weird is going on with the database. Hi. I did the James Ruse chemistry trial and I've got a couple of questions for anyone who goes to James Ruse. What was the go with question 28a? You had to choose the gaseous alkane with the highest...
