    Music 2

Yeah I saw comp/fill which just confused me even more. I think in the end I was tossing up between compose and compress...sounds dumb doesn't it, but I really had no idea. I listened to the score and it just confused me...! How many musical examples did people have for the essay question? I had...

How Bad is the HSC stress for you?

    SAME!! Everyone's like - haha you're going to get 99. And i'm like..no i'm not. I don't even WANT 99, that's just freaky.

Which Scales higher? Music 2 or Math 2u??

Are you serious? Music 2 pwns 2 unit Maths. Lower candidature, less competition. Oh, and it happens to be ridiculously harder. Music 2 is so much harder than Music 1. True, we get scores, but we also have to do 6 billion things more with the score. Also- the scores are really complex and it's...

How Bad is the HSC stress for you?

arts subjects = major equalling 50% of course = easy peasy theory exams = stress at an all time low. the only thing I stressed for was English Paper 2, and even then it wasn't that bad. i love my subject choice.

    Music 2

I was the only person at my school doing the exam, so when I couldn't hear the euphonium I just got the supervisor lady to turn the speakers up really loud- ha! I thought it was quite good. The essay question was fairly straightforward (can't believe people are surprised about drawing upon the...

    Concrete Poetry and EE2

Hooray for poetry! You're very brave. My best advice is to start conceptualising straight away. I think you really want to have that done by the end of the first term, or at least have some kind of idea that has already developed. It will really, really help you in the long run. As for not...

New SMH Article: Changes to English/SOR leaving students vulnerable

Normally I would agree on this, but did you SEE the SOR1 paper?! I don't even do the subject, but the question seemed ridiculously worded. I have a few friends doing it, really intelligent, and even they were baffled. I mean, they did eventually answer the question, but only in some obscure...

HSC '09- the most paranoid year.

Seeing as I did Cloudstreet, I'm not sure that my advice is right...but are you saying you analysed three different guises of Hamlet? Like the play itself, and two film versions? ...I'm not sure if that's right. Here's how I structured my essay..a 'perspective' refers to a frame of reading a...

How "provocative" were your conflicting perspectives ideas

Haha, I said that Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath hated each other, and that Sylvia Plath although she hated Hughes actually had crazy attraction to him. I remember the sentence exactly... 'In 'Pursuit', Plath presents a dichotomy between inescapable doom and burning sexual desire'.

    Good subjects?

Ridiculously bad advice. Drop something after midcourse? Why would you do that, when you can just not enrol in the course and have time up your sleeve to improve every other subject. Eckh. First of all, I'd go the 10 units. But only if you feel really secure within those subjects. For the HSC I...

    OMG @ the workload

Sucked in, 12 units. Also, I remember I calculated that I had 18 x 45 minute free periods. Which constitutes to about a day and half of school doing nothing. Ahh, creative subjects = the life. Stressful at trials, I'll admit. But cruising the HSC now.

How did you actually structure the essay in the HSC?

HSC '09- the most paranoid year.

Sorry! :( If it is any solace to you, most of my year didn't know. I found out only in the last term (we did Module B first term) and tried to spread the word around. The new rubric can be viewed here: English Advanced Paper 2 HSC exam rubrics - Board of Studies NSW Also, a summary of the...

All this discussion clarifying amounts of related texts. For god's sake. Don't you people read!? Gah!

HSC '09- the most paranoid year.

That 'ever so slight' rubric change actually changes essentially what they want from you though. Whereas you used to have to evaluate the 'text’s reception in different contexts' (ie. readings), you're now supposed to evaluate the 'text’s language, content and construction'. In other words, less...
