I don't think the hardness of the subjects will change much compared to under the OP1 to ATAR system.

For mathematics, up to 30% of preliminary content can be tested. Japanese, as it is a language and builds on each year I suspect you'd need to know/be on top of all preliminary content.

And If you like the books and reading it is less of a chore?

The earlier editions maths on focus did not adequately prepare students for HSC exams.I suspect this is the case with the new syllabus edition too. Cambridge is a good textbook so maybe get that one as a primary resource.
