    The Problem with Rote Learning

Rote learning only has place when we are little kids and think like sheep. No point in continuing to think like sheep when we have a whole brain to use

    The Problem with Rote Learning

Yeah, ok early on maybe rote learning has a place, and the only reason that is, is because little kids do not have much critical thinking ability, so you can't really ask them to think that hard. At HSC level though its a different story, we are dealing with mature brains (or nearly mature)...

    The Problem with Rote Learning

Why would there need to exist rote learners in the first place? Just people wanting to take the easy way out and not learning content properly. If we want education to have its true impact and benefits on society, people need to be actually educated properly. Not told to memorise 1200 words and...

    The Problem with Rote Learning

Sure, knowledge must be part of any syllabus, but there are different ways we can give people knowledge and different ways to examine them on it. For sciences, questions are repeated A LOT, we can rote learn pretty much all the answers of previous tests and rote learn everything in syllabus and...

    The Problem with Rote Learning

'Rote learning is a cancer towards education. People who purely rote-learn give up their ability to think critically and question the information being handed to them. They accept the information without question and accept it to be true. This blind acceptance is the very basis of why propaganda...

    Functions

Domain: All x x\neq 0 How do I know this? -> The Absolute Value function does not restrict what X values I can put in, it only restricts what Y values come out. Think back to the very basics of functions, functions are not 'graphs' graphs are merely visual representations of functions. A...

Re: HSC 2013 4U Marathon I see. Time to think of a new question considering that other failed haha (I learnt something from it I guess). I think I will stay away from infinite series for a while, too many rigour issues at a High School level I think

    Re: HSC 2013 4U Marathon Ok how about this: 1+x+x^2+...+x^{n-1}=\frac{1-x^n}{1-x} \ \ \ |x|<1 Implementing the definite integral \int_{-1}^{0} 1+x+x^2+...+x^{n-1} \ dx = \int_{-1}^0 \frac{1}{1-x} \ dx - \int_{-1}^0 \frac{x^n}{1-x} \ dx -\sum_{k=1}^{n} \frac{(-1)^n}{n} + \int_{-1}^0...

Re: HSC 2013 4U Marathon I used ln(1-x) as it was easier. I ended up with: \ln(1-x)= -\sum_{k=1}^n \frac{x^k}{k} - \int \frac{x^n}{1-x} \ dx + C The integral cannot be evaluted in terms of elementary function (that's the term right?) How would I show that as n increases without bound the...

    2012 HSC Merit Lists

It is really really hard to distinguish SRs let alone the top 100 or so. That is because there are usually like (in Maths for instance) 2 people on 100, then like ~10 or so on 99 so then they take into other factors to award SR.
