What car will you get as your first car?

If there's one thing I noticed about German vs. Japanese cars is that the Germans don't tend to sound so powerful on paper/specs but drive alot harder for the same engine CC (but obviously much higher in the price range). Just compare even an old 540i with an equivalent 4L V8 from Holden/Ford...

What car will you get as your first car?

Yep I have that Civic (the current generation sedan which is Japanese designed but built in Thailand). It's known as the Civic FD1. Decent car- bought it at launch. Quite fun to drive and good for P platers. New CTR looks alright but it isn't as track/performance focused as before... it's...

What car will you get as your first car?

Mmm.. the one thing which surprised me about Gen2 is the interior and the sound system. Reviewers didn't seem to like it that much but I thought the interior looked pretty nice and as long as you aren't trying to modify the headunit, the interior layout is pretty decent too for it's class. The...

What car will you get as your first car?

Avoid the Savvy. Not too good. Gen2/Persona/whatever they end up being called in Australia are good, but the Savvy's automated manual is a bit.. uh.. well let's say the marketing slogan in M'sia is "built tougher than it looks" >__> What budget is the key question.

    Suspicion

People with limited budgets really should stick to the Corollas and the like... there's a reason why they have such high resale values. Don't want to sound like a snob but truth be told, purchase price is just a small blip on the radar in long-term car ownership. For used cars, repairs and...

What car will you get as your first car?

LOL my family has a Gen2 and a few other Protons along the way :) The engines, whilst a bit coarse, aren't too bad... it's just amazing you can even get upto their top speed without the thing falling apart.

    What do you guys think?

Agreed. As long as the car's inherent design had adequate chassis strengthening for the roofless model, then it should be fine. What I find interesting are cars like the Benz SL Black which were originally convertibles but in the quest to become more track/performance-focused (aka hardcore)...

What car will you get as your first car?

There's a LOT of parts if you're willing to import from Malaysia and malaysian websites. I've seen quite a few very done up over there (I'm Malaysian) but never in Australia. Only once have I seen a Proton with a 4G63 inside and that was at a car meet recently. As for 4ws, I have my doubts...

    Suspicion

There are a few services which will go and inspect the car for you to give you a more thorough idea of the condition of the car. Be weary if the seller doesn't want to allow you to do this! Be warned though, my mate got this done for a used MRT STi he purchased about a month ago but they didn't...

    What do you guys think?

I'd prefer them too. I believe the general consensus amongst BoSers is that cars with more grunt are preferable to cars which let wind in your hair.

    What do you guys think?

Are you basing this on what you've read and heard or have you driven both back to back? I wouldn't mind one if I was in the market for a light 2 door convertible/soft top. There isn't anything wrong with them. The problem in the market lies with the much cheaper convertibles which have no...

    What do you guys think?

    Meh I'd be happy with a 335i, M3, 650Ci, M6, SLK55 or SL convertible. Even a Boxster S.

    What do you guys think?

There's nothing wrong with MR2s and other affordable import Japanese sports cars. At least they will be a bit more reliable in terms of core components and daily usage.

    What do you guys think?

Aren't they mid engine with a small boot and a storage area up front too? ps. I don't own an MR2 but this is based on my friend's old MR2 (not the final model).

    What do you guys think?

(convertible-wise) MR2 yay. 300zx no. Although I would avoid CRX but that's out of personal preference.

    What do you guys think?

TBH Alfa's are known for poor build quality and overpriced service/maintenance. They are beautiful cars (to some) and have very delicate handling... but unfortunately for most people, reliability is something more important than aesthetics which is why Toyota still does so well. Whilst I can't...

    What do you guys think?

An RX-7 in this price range is probably not that reliable.. wouldn' recommend it unless the OP wants to muck around in a rotary enginebay. Maybe a Celica or Supra would be better in terms of reliability.

    What do you guys think?

I'd be too scared of buying a used Alfa unless it came from a dealer with a good warranty. Even new Alfas have heaps of problems (alot of electrical issues) according to my mates who work at dealerships (some brand new 07/08 cars were selling at 40%-50% discount a couple months back when I was...

    Would YOU drive this ?

In all fairness something weird happened a couple days ago and alot of newer threads and posts disappeared and the old ones got pushed up *shrugs* Anyway it's funny looking back at how things (and myself) have changed since 2007 when this thread was posted. I did end up putting the full Mugen...

What car will you get as your first car?

If you just want a car which always starts when you want to go somewhere, is light on fuel consumption, easy to drive/park and won't attract attention, it's the car to go for. One day when you do want to sell it it'll be an easy sale as well.
