    Pirates.

    Exactly.

    Pirates.

Sorry, not quite. This question is actually rather hard. It is all logical though. Try seeing what happens for small numbers of pirates (so their decisions are simple) and build up.

    Monks.

Correct idea. If you can clearly express how this idea generalises then I will consider the question answered and drop the follow-up question, wherein lies the real mindfuck.

    Pirates.

Five hundred pirates stumble across a chest filled with 100 pieces of gold. Being in a hierarchical society, the pirates have ranks #1 to #500. The pirate king (#1) decides on a way of distributing the gold. Eg 50 for him, 50 for #2. That night, the pirates all take a vote on whether this...

    Monks.

Not quite but you are on to something. Something definitely happens, regardless of how many have blue eyes.

    Monks.

It's a classic, I have another really nice one I heard recently that I will post after.

    Monks.

One hundred monks live on a remote island and live by very strict rules. Each is born with either blue or brown eyes. 1. They are forbidden from communicating with each other in any way. 2. They all eat their meals together during the day. 3. If a monk ever learns of the colour of his eyes...

So my piece of shit laptop died.

6-8 hours on average when doing normal things. when playing games or anything that require the graphics card it would probably be closer to 2. Very few things require the use of the graphics card though so I am very pleasantly surprsed at how long it lasts. So happy with the purchase.

So my piece of shit laptop died.

Not the most useful post as the deal is over but I was extremely happy with the XPS17 I got on an end of financial year deal recently...something like 1200 for a 17.3" FHD screen, 1.5Tb HD, 8G ram, decent 3gig video card etc. The speakers on this thing are amazing too.

    Is standard english THAT bad?

Well it was my lowest mark but I got what wanted and have no regrets. Standard doesn't hold you back unless you are aiming for a VERY high atar.

    Is standard english THAT bad?

I did standard and didn't end up in TAFE.

    Is standard english THAT bad?

Scaling is pretty rape (in a bad way), but it isn't hard to score reasonably well given the marking criteria and the competition. I did std for the sake of having a cruisier year 12 and not having to spend as much time as I would have to for adv. My end aligned mark was 85, and I think it...

    Linux

Run arch linux using openbox on everything I own except for one newish laptop which has features that aren't supported as well as I'd like yet under linux.

    HSC 2012 MX2 Marathon (archive)

Re: 2012 HSC MX2 Marathon $We aim to prove that $p_n(x)$ is positive everywhere for each non-negative integer $n$. (The subscript simply tells us what we are taking n to be).\\So the argument can be structured as follows:\\i) $p_0(x)=1>0$ everywhere.\\ii) Observe that any real poly of odd...

    HSC 2012 MX1 Marathon #2 (archive)

Re: HSC 2012 Marathon :) Yep, the methods are 3U but I more meant that we cannot expect a 3U student to answer this kind of question without being led through a specific argument...there are too many stumbling blocks.

    HSC 2012 MX2 Marathon (archive)

Re: 2012 HSC MX2 Marathon Very good! Definitely on the right track using concavity. Keep working using this approach, you are actually very close to done.

    HSC 2012 MX2 Marathon (archive)

Re: 2012 HSC MX2 Marathon Careful, you are not adding just one term to the poly every time n goes up by one.
