Cold War - Detente - Historiography

Look at to what extent geopolitical events led to detente. The USA and USSR each had different reasons for detente, both policical and economic. You'd need to look at each for both sides. Eg: Vietnam. USA economy going into recession, massive military spending, unpopular war at home...

    National Studies HISTORIOGRAPHY

Re: makin up historians?? Markers are not stupid and do teach the options we mark, so avoid making up quotes. And, some markers will bring books with us to check facts. Don't forget that markers been teaching this for years and know the content pretty well. Also, we'd ask the people around us...

Assess & evaluate = same exact thing?

They are not the same, however, they do both ask you to make a judgement. Evaluate means to judge on a hierachy. What was the most important factor? Discuss the most important factors first and then scale your way down. You do need to say why one factor was more important than another.

    sources in essay

It doesn't matter which options you are doing. Quotes, if used well, do add something to your essays. But, too many students use descriptive rather than evaluative quotes. There's no point quoting a fact, quote (or paraphrase) an opinion instead. If the question begins with evaluate/asses/...

    Modern History Textbooks

Re: wat textbook is good for modern history? Sarajevo to Versailles is pretty good too. There are so many options for each of the studies (National, personality and Modern world) that you'll need to ask your teacher. They should be able to tell you what you're doing next year by now.

Does anyone know any good books or historians?

Churchill wrote a number of books himself, so you be expected to refer to them. And, you may need to narrow your focus a bit. Are you referring to World War II? Don't forget that 2500 words is quite short once you get going. You won't be able to write about everything. I can't remember the...

    EXT hISTORY TOPIC-undecided; help!

Yes, Caesar does overlap, as does the Fall of the Republic (which was in this year's HSC paper. If you're interested in Marxism and Ancient History, have a read about the revolt of Spartacus, there are definately some communist overtones there (although it's an anachronism). I agree that...

    Project HELP!

Like most topics, it depends on what you want to do with it. I like Catherine the Great as there is lots of scope for assessment and interpretation. You could also look at Eleanor of Aquitaine (wife of Henry II and one of the most powerful/influential women in the middle ages). The best...

IMPORTANT: Julio-Claudian asssessment- don't know where to start

You won't be able to include everyone in an essay, but the syllabus does name people in that bullet point (Livia, Julia, Germanicus, Ag I, Messalina, Ag II). I would suggest that you write thematically. Problems involved in succession were: - lack of established succession of maius imperium...

Sorry, but you can't do a major work topic on something which overlaps with any HSC course, so for you WWI and Britain is out. The question you have and your ideas are also way to bit for the size of the essay. Yes, you are supposed to develop your own question, but your teacher should be...
