B Science (Financial Mathematics and Statistics) vs B Commerce/Science (Finance/Math)

Re: B Science (Financial Mathematics and Statistics) vs B Commerce/Science (Finance/M Financial Mathematics and Statistics is a Science major and incorporates study in both Mathematics and Statistics, you can take electives from this major in most courses at USYD. Finance is a Commerce major...

Difference between Statistics and Financial Mathematics and Statistics major

Financial Mathematics and Statistics incorporates study in both Mathematics and Statistics, you can take electives from this major in most courses at USYD. You need to take junior, intermediate and senior units in both mathematics and statistics. Statistics is just statistics. So with Stats...

Semester 1 USYD Chatter Thread 2013

Not working for me either and I want to change one of my lecture streams. :( Hopefully it will be up tomorrow morning!

    Usyd's timetables are out

Once you've made the timetable you want and you've pressed "allocate me a similar timetable", if you go back to the home page and keep clicking on "view my current timetable" it eventually shows you your own timetable! :P

Which will boost my chance of transferring to B Com at Usyd?

Haha must just be law transfers they require 48 cp for then XD Yes, if you are transferring two years of credit to USYD, then you would be considered a 3rd year student. Then you can overload. You'd have to look at the Faculty of Science's policies on credit transfer for that, as Maths...

    1st year economics junior units

This. A lot of people double major in Economics and Political Economy for this reason. Economics gives you the quantitative skills but Political Economy provides the contextual backdrop to examine how the economy actually works.

Which will boost my chance of transferring to B Com at Usyd?

USYD don't give credit for core subjects. So even if you did a similar subject at Macquarie, USYD would not give you credit for BUSS1001, BUSS1900, BUSS1002, BUSS1020, BUSS1030 or BUSS1040. Also, I believe you need to have completed a minimum of one year of full time study for your tertiary...

    1st year economics junior units

1st year economics all you need to know Maths-wise is basic differential calculus. Econometrics is a bit trickier but most of it is statistics-based stuff that isn't taught in HSC Maths. I have friends who did 4 unit for the HSC and hadn't covered a lot of the material in ECMT subjects. I'd...

    Enrolment Variation

It's instantaneous if you meet the pre-requisite/co-requisite criteria (but you don't really have to worry about that in first year). The exception is when it's a unit where enrolment is restricted such as some of the advanced science units and TSP subjects.

Roll Call for those trying to transfer into Usyd/UNSW law this Year - 2013

Excuse my ignorance but what's the link to the USYD one? I did this last year, you'd think I'd remember! :P

    School vs Uni

The main positive for me is the independence. I'm doing a BCom at USYD so I'm only at uni 12-14 hours per week. Spread over three days a week that gives me a lot of time to catch up with friends, go out for lunch and sustain a bit of part time work. If you're not doing a course with a lot of...

    B Arts (advanced) (honours)

To elaborate on the answer to question 1: you also have to make up junior units when you transfer to the BA/LLB because you're then just doing a standard LLB, and your major will require the completion of a certain number of junior subjects, unlike advanced arts. Also, as you go straight into...

    Help with timetable?

Just follow the progression guide but swap BUSS1030 and BUSS1020. Then take FINC2011 as your semester two elective. 1020 and 1040 are the assumed knowledge for FINC2011 and a lot of people who want to get a headstart in their finance major swap 1030 and 1020 so they can take corporate finance 1...

Would a tablet be useful in Uni?

First year economics at USYD is maths based and I found a pen and paper was way more useful than typing notes. If you type then it's more difficult to get down all the graphs and formulas. Plus, if you get a notebook for Eco, you can write your lecture notes for a week, followed by the...

Roll Call for those trying to transfer into Usyd/UNSW law this Year - 2013

Ooops sorry! I'm fairly certain the QTAC table is only applicable to Queensland admissions - the other one above is for NSW admissions. Even with a 96 I think you'd have a good chance of getting into UNSW or USYD Commerce! :)

Roll Call for those trying to transfer into Usyd/UNSW law this Year - 2013

I have no idea to be honest. The say they look at 50/50 ATAR/GPA or 100 GPA - whichever is higher - but I don't know if they actually do. Regardless, I think your GPA is too low for the latter method. The cut-offs for transfer entry into USYD law posted above have been 96+ for the past five...

    What is your first preference?

I've heard the opposite from people in legal recruitment. USYD is marginally > UNSW and then all the other universities are miles behind those two.

Roll Call for those trying to transfer into Usyd/UNSW law this Year - 2013

You convert GPA to a selection rank/100, add ATAR and GPA and divide by two. :) So yours would be 98.75 + 99.5/2 = 99.125 - I'd say you're definitely in at USYD Apparently it's changed quite a bit. 2012 transfers it was around low 97's but I heard that 2011 transfers it was significantly...
