Lol just saw this now when I was looking for Arash's room on google.
Deadset legend. I cannot put in words how good he is (and given that sem was the first time he lectured a course iirc - he's onto something).
Not the official 2134 lecturer but hosted 3 livestreams (where you could drop in...
Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2017
Where are some good places to burn an hour doing some work? Library isn't worth the trek for me tbh.
Been using the science theatre foyer because good toilets, quiet, not crowded and decent internet. Anyone else got suggestions?
Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2017
With echo try a different browser - the sad pixel paper is chrome running out of memory iirc. Earlier last week there was an issue with chrome not being able to use Echo because of the security certificates.
Also seems as though "Wankerness" is apparent across...
Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2017
Sad thing is I'm not even joking - a friend pm'd me from a his lab (I think) at the same time reporting similar.
For those who've studied computer science the whole way (I'm a EE student so won't get to experience their 'development'), do these people exist the...
Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2017
Hard to choose when it's the first lab and half the people are going around "hey how many languages do you know", then you watch them proceed to open up Python IDLE and write a program that infinite loops "hey" and act like they're a coding ninja. /rant...
I have a thinkpad t460s. Build imo is on par if not better than a mac (it's a enterprise model) and performance is better.
Cost me $900 or so new.
If you don't need the Mac OS definitely a great option.

Definitely, from an investment POV no point not taking HECS (even if you can afford). It's essentially an interest free loan.
Chuck the uni fees into a term deposit (low risk) , an index fund (mid risk) or a stock (higher risk) and profit the gap between your return and the inflation rate and...

Means you're all done
Does the course pack change year by year? If not I'd be interested - pm me.
I already have the pdf of the physics text but I work 100x better with a physical copy. I'm thinking the investment may pay off if I can get a cheap used one.
Just some questions regarding textbooks:
I'm doing ENGG1000, MATH1131, PHYS1131 and COMP1511
To my knowledge only Math and Phys have prescribed textbooks (please correct if wrong):
The Physics Textbook (from a doc published this year) is: Fundamentals of Physics (Extended) 10th Edition...
They'll be noted in the handbook.
Considering you're doing it first semester then you'll probably want to (don't have to) take the 4 core commerce subjects.
My understanding is that you don't need to follow their recommended structure at all as long as you meet prerequisites.
Bear in mind they have the structure for a reason and not all subjects will be offered in both semesters

I understand that since the government removed the 10% HECS discount there's no reason to not take it up.
I was wondering if the same can be said for SA-HELP? I can make more than the rate of inflation on it so might as well defer is my logic
