how strict is UNSW with special considerations? URGENT

Would have to be for good reason, just a simple medical certificate may not cover it, especially if you already got one this term for one of the courses. Though of course, with the new fit-to-sit rule, they may be more lenient.

    Free elective suggestions

You could try one of the compulsory subjects from the other media streams, e.g. News Reporting?

What laptop should I get for uni?

I take some of them so that I don't have to review as much later, and also, in some of my law classes we weren't allowed to access the slides, nor take pictures of them.

What laptop should I get for uni?

You may say that now, but wait until you get into the lectures and you are trying your best to get a good balance of the slide content and the mini-speech given by the lecturer down before they change the slide every 20 seconds.

    Going to UNSW, below cut-off

UNSW tend to be a bit more lenient than USYD would in terms of admission, though it just depends. You may get an offer, but you may not. For a more accurate estimation, the university now puts out the actual entry marks (admissions transparency), so you could check the lowest and the median...

What laptop should I get for uni?

Mmm, there's no specific type I feel that you 'should' get for uni. I use a Mac, because it is very light, convenient, and has a very long battery life but it just depends on you. From what I have observed though, the majority of students use a Macbook of some form (Regular, Air or Pro). So...

    Back to back classes

You can, and will have that but if you do make sure that you only do it for classes that are close to each other and not on opposite ends of campus, otherwise you will always have to leave early, or always be arriving late.

    media (pr & adv) courses

For sem 1 you'll probably have to do ARTS1090 and MDIA1002, and then get two electives (I did double degree so not sure but I think you get two) in which case I would probably recommend ARTS1010 (Life of Words) because it is a pretty easy creative writing course with no exams, that will get you...

    HELP

I mean, it's really difficult to say. I would probably be more inclined to advice against Criminology in case you don't get into the law, because you probably don't want to be stuck doing that if you don't. One of my friends transferred in with Criminology, but she wants to study criminal law...

    HELP

I mean, choosing a degree to double in such as commerce for corporate or medicinal chemistry for medical malpractice would probably be beneficial... Though choosing criminology won't necessarily hurt your chances either. You can go into any field realistically, and it would probably depend more...

    Double degree sci/engineering

I don't do this degree combination, but I do do a dual degree of Law/Media and in it, but I (and pretty much everyone I know) do a combination of both. E.g. Sem 1 next year I will be doing Crim Law & Public law (Law degree) in addition to Social Media and Communication Strategies (Media). So...

    guaranteed entry 2018

It's because there is no guarantee that you would have gotten in the course normally. So, for something without guaranteed entry, if the cutoff was 97.3, but the amount of 98+ people that applied exceeded the limits of the degree, then the people who just got 97.3 wouldn't get in. It's the same...

    Post your 2017 ATAR below!

Where are you applying? Your ATAR would definitely be able to get you into a number of different degrees at different universities :)

Can I still do Mechanical Engineering at UTS

Yeah, you still have a decent shot of getting in. :)
  15. Jakulore

ATAR is way off the estimations

No, that would be what your final ATAR is. Even the most accurate calculators have a margin of error, because the process of determining the ATARs and 'scaling' and what not is different every year. Even if I enter my marks into 'the most accurate' ATAR calculator that is actually set to my...

    UNSW chit chat thread

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2017 Yeah, you have to wait till you get the offer but pretty much after you accept it you're good to go.

Don't know for sure, but I would assume you will exceed 95, which means you would be good :) Also, congrats to all the students this year on your great results, good luck with you ATAR's tomorrow. Might see people at UNSW Info Day on Saturday if anyone is coming ;)

    Internal program transfer

    1. Yes 2. Depends on your subjects, but if you are doing PR & Advertising for 1 semester... Probably not? You would be doing ARTS1090 and MDIA1002 which are pretty easy to get good marks in, as is ARTS1010 if you choose it as an elective. 3. Only your WAM is considered, unless you had...

    Advice:

Don't worry about it, you can catch up again easily. It's only your first task and it is only 15%. So, realistically, that's only 4ish marks lost, which can easil be made up in other assessments, so as long as you just do decently in the remaining tasks you'll be fine.

    Band 6

Yup! Basically, you just get your HSC exam mark, and then a mark that correllates to your band, though is likely/should be closer to your exam mark.
