Have you done STAT170? Because ECON241 is not much harder than that at all, and if you do that in your first year it means that in your second year you should be able to fit in a 100lvl subject which should give you a break from your harder second year subjects.

This only happened to me for the first time last week (after 4 years). I think it's more or less there just if you're borderline Pass/Fail, but they see you've attended all lectures/tutes then they'll be more likely to bump it up to a pass.

You really do need all your textbooks for just about all first year accounting/finance subjects. I've known a couple of people who wouldn't buy the books and just use the library ones, but in my opinion thats waaaay too much of a hassle having to find a spare book in the library, photocopy pages...
