Out of interest, what did everyone spend on the night?
My expenditures:

hotel- $65 (Star City 3 br apartment with 7 of us in it)
travel to hotel- free
formal ticket- $105
suit and shirt- $330 (i just got a synthetic suit but i had this mad fitted shirt with 2% lycra that stretches with your movements, sooooo good)
shoes and socks- borrowed
tie- gift, worth $200 though (lol lucky me)

food and coffee and such on day before formal- $20
formal drinks- $30
alcohol purchased from bottle shops- ~$50
Montecristo cigar- $25
drinks and kebab while out- ~100
train ticket home- $4

So I guess all up yeah about $730, give or take a bit depending on what I remember. Sounds like a lot now, at the time it seemed reasonable lol and I guess I get to keep the suit and such. Still I guess it's short of the "average yr 12 student spending $2000" as the news would have you believe.
suit, was 480 got it for 180 ^^
so... suit,tie,shirt etc=180
ticket=35
we went back to the place we had for schoolies... we had 3 days of schoolies left to attend :) but ill take it into account, 320/7=~$46
alcohol=~$10 (already had drink from schoolies)
thats all
all up=$271
