Try this.. Could be easy or hard. Try not to google anything..

The sides of a triangle are (2x-1), (x+1) and (11-x).

Prove that

is this like a hsc related question. or is it just a lateral thinking type question.

You would have to form an inequality with the three equations, there probably is one more step. I am still figuring out how.

It was in one of my 2-unit tests i had at school. Not sure if it could be placed in the HSC or not though.

can't be negative as it is a side of a triangle.

For the first case,

From the rule of the inequality of a triangle.

Similarly,

Hence,

Is this the working? Seems tricky.

Correct.

The sum of two sides of a triangle must be greater than the third.

Very weird question. I could not imagine any school asking that in the HSC. Going to go for a bit. Goodnight.

Re: 2 Unit Revising Marathon HSC '10

You guys ask the hardest questions lol, where do you get them from? Cambridge? I'd expect that time / displacement question from spiral Flex to be something like Qs 9 or 10 in the HSC exam. I'm aiming for a band 5 at least. My internals are strong enough to withstand a solid band 5. I just need to get roughly 80% or so in externals. hmm maybe 80% is too high, prob 70% ish

You can do better. Come on study hard.

ahaha Fine, I edited my post so I stay positive enough to push on. I'm going through my year 11 parabolic locus type questions...god it's been a year since I touched this material. Trying to study it, its coming back slowly.

I'm trying to give it 100% I want to get my trials back so I can see where I went wrong ><

Re: 2 Unit Revising Marathon HSC '10

i) After picking the first sock there are 7 socks. There is only 1 sock left of the same colour, out of the 7, so there are 6/7 chances that he will not get a match

ii) 8/8 (first sock) * 6/7 * 5/6 = 5/7

iii) (8/8 * 1/7 * 5/6) + (8/8 * 6/7 * 1/6) = 11/42

i'm probably wrong I'm terrible at prob...
