and i really believe that to an employer, any B with relevant experience is better than a B Hons, so maybe you're all focussing on the wrong thing
But generally you get work experience with a sponsor company if you do honours in BE.

well i was referring to your first job straight from uni, that they'd prefer experience over the honours provided the experience was relevant and extensive - really how can you argue that? particularly if the employer has already established a rapport with the student through work experience or somesuch. of course a grade average is fantastic, but from the viewpoint of the employer isnt it equally as important to know that the potential employee is actually going to be able to APPLY the skills theyve learnt, not just that they've got good grades.

i dunno, my brother graduated last year, had a mediocre grade average and was the first person in his year group to secure a full-time position in his industry - due to his experience

of course grades are important, there's no doubting that, i'm just trying to provide a little alternative for the grade-obsessed nutters, for fucks sake, were all going to get a job anyway
There's a compulsory 12 weeks in industry to be taken during your engineering degree, and I'm sure doing more than that during the holidays would have little bearing on the chances of a high average.

no ones saying that work experience increases your average
I didn't mean that either, just your post gave the impression that relevant experience and honours were mutually exclusive.

???
okay................. well just to make it clear i was referring to employment prospects being just as favourable with a mediocre grade average + experience as with hons or whatever

My attitude has changed somewhat. Unlike in the HSC, after i hand in an assessment i dont think, "I wonder what im going to get for it", rather i think "thank God i wont have to do one of those for atleast another week".

Jeez, most of you 1st years are pushing yourself too hard. Chill out for gosh sakes. 1st year is supposed to be the most relaxing year at uni... 2nd year and 3rd year is what counts. Miss one lecture for once, or even take the day off and do something fun with ur uni mates (ensure u got no tests/assignments due that day). Its worth it. :uhhuh:

Because IT is effectively a specialised stream of BSc(Adv)
same with B Psychology, i think you need a CR average to stay on course.

It's because its competitive to get to 4th year Honours, with only limited places. The better marks you have, the better chance you'll be selected for 4th year.

(I know this since my gf does psych at USyd)
