the dogs couldn't just leave the situation as is though. it's a good strategy to buy in some talent, even if it's not immediately going to get the team up to premiership level (which i dont think the management is expecting anyway). there are good juniors coming into first grade - ben barba, jamal idris, john kite - but it's not ideal for them to do that in a very weak team with poor morale and no particular stars, which is the situation at the moment. buying a few good players gives the younger dudes someone to learn from and strengthens morale, which can only be a good thing for their development.
agree completely.

the best teams need a precise balance of junior talent AND good recruitment policies.

go manly!!!

melbourne showed that you had to loose one to win one and where here this year!!!!
Manly =/= Melbourne.

:)

Will be interesting to see how much Manly will beat the Panthers by. Melbourne shouldn't be thinking about the minor premiership, but I can't see that happening when they play Souths.

knights out, warriors in. shows you that warriors can win away from home if they put their mind to it. i really think tonight's game sums up parra's season - all the potential in the world, but nothing more. hagan's got a lot of thinking to do in the off season. brian smith, on the other hand, can consider the knights unlucky not to get into the 8. just as the sharks did last year, they lost 10+ games by 12pts or less.

manly = minor premiers, by the way.

melbourne have to beat souths by something like 26 or 28 points to secure the minor premiership though right?

Might very well be a possibility though. Souths playing in melbourne...

Melbourne have to beat Souths by 26 points to become minor premiers
Canberra have to beat the Bulldogs by 17 points to finish 6th and push the Dragons down to 7th
The Bulldogs have to beat Canberra to avoid the wooden spoon

3 in a row.

I thought Souths would have put up more of a fight, but it blew out towards the end.

Warriors next weekend at the graveyard. I don't like it.

he may not be a big game player, but orford has been so consistent over the last 2 years, i am a little surprised he hasn't played origin. manly is where they are all thanks to him and brett stewart.
