I think it means that the entire cohort has to do well externally in order for every one to align better internally. In other words, the cohort has to work together in achieving high external marks.
Yes. So share all your notes and resources with your yeargroup now.

Yes, need the entire cohort to do as well as possible in externals and try and avoid a big tail (unless you're ranked first internally, in which case you won't get affected by the tail). Probably a good idea to share notes etc. within your cohort.
So if I'm coming first in some subjects... I should not help my cohort at all hahaha??

Well it's actually still good to help them because if you for some reason don't do as well as you thought you would in the externals, there's more chance someone else does very well externally (because you all helped each other, although this person is likely to be someone who was ranked decently internally themselves), and this mark will become your internal mark.

So can you use an example? As in if I'm coming 5th internally and I get an exam mark of 90 which is the highest external mark, what happens then?
Then the person who came first internally will get 90 as their internal mark. (Your external mark will be 90 and your internal mark will be somewhere between the lowest external mark and 90).

So basically someone else will still get my mark but my final mark is the average of 90 and my internal mark?

Yes. And the person who came first internally would get a final mark that is the average of 90 and their external mark.

And my internal mark is the mark my teacher submits to the Board of Studies right? But then what's the process of aligning? If it's as simple as getting my external mark averaged with my internal mark, then does that mean it doesn't matter if I'm coming 5th?

No, the final moderated internal mark you get is a moderated mark based on how your cohort does externally, and the distribution of internal marks the teacher sent to the BOSTES. Check that Bored of Studies link.

Nah there is an chance of you not coming first in externals due to stress, nerves, being sick etc.

Someone could potentially help save your ATAR

But what if I help them so much that they eventually beat me in externals because of that help. Should I be helping everyone or just the kids coming last.

Is it a really big deal to help your classmates or not really? Like, is it 'yes you must otherewise your ATAR will suffer a lot' or is it 'your ATAR might only be effected a tiny bit'.
If you are first in a subject, then you should really be wanting to help the people who could potentially get higher then you.
People getting higher then you could bring your ATAR up 1-3 points at least.

Now internals are over, your aim/your classmates aim should be bringing everyone up to the highest possible level for the HSC external exams.
