2016 IPT HSC Question 19 - No idea why I got the wrong answer? (1 Viewer)

I was doing some past papers as revision and I stumbled upon a question in which I had no idea how the markers came to the conclusion that it was a different answer to mine. I'd appreciate it if you'd take a look:

IPT HSC 2016 Question 19

A restaurant chain is converting to a self-service ordering system. It has introduced this new system alongside its existing system in one location, with a view to convert all the other outlets to the self-service ordering system in the future.

Which combination of conversion methods is being used?

(A) Pilot and direct
(B) Pilot and phased
(C) Parallel and pilot
(D) Parallel and direct

My answer & reasoning: D, since running the new system alongside the existing system in one location is obviously parallel and converting all the other outlets in the future would be direct, because there is no mention of a trial or gradual implementation which would indicate it was pilot.

Correct answer (using NESA website): C.

I'd appreciate it if someone could explain where I went wrong!

Direct coversions: The old system is dropped completely and the new system being implemented at a single point in time.
The question doesn't directly state whether the old system system will be dropped all together at a time.
So the better answer would be Pilot conversion as the new system is only implemeted for some users to test before full implementation.

It's parallel because its being launched whilst the other system is in effect, (Like when opal cards came out and you could still use the paper stuff). It is a Pilot because the system is used in one small, manageable area, doing so in "one location" so they can "convert all the other outlets to the self service ordering system", which is by definition what Pilot is. It is not direct, because direct means a direct implementation of the Entire system immediately. "With a view to convert all the other outlets to the self-service" system implies a gradual process . The fact that this system was introduced in "one location", also implies the "mention of a trial". Your deducements, although not right!, show that you understand lots about project management in IPT. I'm going to upload my IPT guide to this board later tonight.

You need to watch the wording- with a view. Hence, it is pilot and parallel as it is not being completely dropped/phased out.
