Re: anyone going to ADFA

To become a seaman officer is it absolutely necessary to do Adv. Mathematics in your HSC or will they still give you a go doing Gen. ???

Re: anyone going to ADFA

odd; I've heard of a lot of people who haven't done maths at all and have still been accepted for officer training. And it's not on the education requirements on the DF website..

Re: anyone going to ADFA

Man I was trying out for a pilot through ADFA but they rejected my application because they didn't like my school marks D:< And this is after I pass all their stupid tests. GRR!
Yep, they also did the same to me but I dont know why I applied in the first place

If you still want to become a pilot, do I am doing, and go to a flying school. Yes ANZ currently own me for the next 7 years and will make plenty of interest out of me, but hopefully in 7 years time the average decent pilot wage will wipe that out, even if you are in mass debt at the start.

As long as you passed Year 12 English you can soar the skies as quicker as any other person can.

Re: anyone going to ADFA

Had my sights set on it early in the year. Sent my application in, waited for the YOU session. No answer, called them up couple of months later, finally got one about a week later. Turn up to the interview and say I've missed the cut-off date by a week! Shattered...even more now that I had a high enough ENTER to get in. Screw you recruitment staff! Anyways I'll try and get into the undergraduate scheme for next year. At least then I can stay home.

Re: anyone going to ADFA

Hi all! I am doing Year 12 next year and I want to attend ADFA/UNSW. I am going to apply early in the year so I have a good chance of getting in. My subjects are English Studies, Maths Apps, Business Studies, Nutrition and Psychology. I live in Darwin so my schooling is done through SSABSA. I want to get a TER of at least 85.00 and higher. I know that there is specialist training specific to certain jobs. My parents are in the army and I have wanted to go to ADFA for as long as I can remember. I was wondering if ADFA and OSB look at past scores/reports or do they just look at your TER? I either want to do a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Business. I need to know everything like tips and if anyone who has gone through the selection process and is now at ADFA could contact me. I would be interested to talk to them. I am going to be doing a lot of things next year to help build my portfolio and at least help my case with ADFA. I plan to do cadets, the defence work experience program, volunteering, sports, SRC, ADFA Open Day and many more things. I am getting a personal trainer to help me with the fitness part. Is there anything that I have missed that would be needed and wanted by ADFA? I am willing to work my butt off to get into ADFA and I plan to do this next year. Going to ADFA is everything that I have wanted and I want to achieve this goal of mine. I want to know everything about the OSB and the selection process so I can at least prepare and help myself for it. I have already tried to apply through general entry twice. Also how would I go about seeing how I went in my psych interview? I would like to know whether I would need to improve on anything etc. I would like to know everything!!

Thanks :)

Re: anyone going to ADFA

why do you not want to got to unsw? just so you know, you are still at the adfa campus in canberra....

go as undergrad sponsored student, or as graduate.
i'm not a big fan of their international relations degree. so i can go to usyd and get sponsored?

Re: anyone going to ADFA

varies massively based on year/service/position

but each state has a quota, and that quota is filled with BOTH direct entry and undergraduate sponsorship students, so its heaps more competitive.
ah i see, well i'll just forget about it then. i only wanted to be in the raaf for the uniform and i'm pretty sure ADFA has an entire system to keep people like me out as so they should

Re: anyone going to ADFA

lol yeah they grill you pretty hard on why you want to join
Tell me about it. I think what I said was firstly the cash incentive and guaranteed employment, then I paused for a second thinking of some other reasons, then I started bullshitting about wanting to help the country and wanting to travel and shit. Why can't it just be a simple process? We wouldn't be there if we didn't want to join.

Re: anyone going to ADFA

Apparently the Undergraduate Scheme is only for those aspiring to become SSOs now and not GSOs.

Re: anyone going to ADFA

Sorry for my ignorance but what do the abbreviations stand for?
SSO- Specialist Service Officer, an officer who has a degree in either Health, Engineering or Legal discipline and who has a career in the ADF relevant to that degree e.g. Medical Officer, Civil Engineer etc.

GSO- General Service Officer, an officer who does not have a degree or an officer who does have a degree that does not pertain to their job e.g. Armoured Corps Officer, Infantry Officer etc.

Basically the Army, Navy or Air Force will only sponsor you if you are studying a degree relevant to the job that you will undertake in the Defence Force. Say, someone doing a Law Degree will go in as a Legal Officer rather than a Grunt officer etc.

By planes, do you mean as a pilot or as an aeronautical engineer?

brah those replies are from ages ago.

protip for ossifer: do a ton of sports in high school and lots of extracurriculars while keeping your grades up.

Being in year ten i think it's still a bit early to apply, wait till year 11 and finish off your OSB before year 12.
