AC Advantages

* Voltage can be stepped up and down.
* Can be transmitted at high voltage.
* Less energy loss in transmission.
* Simple slip ring commutator is used.

AC Disadvantages

* Back emf opposes supplied emf.
* Emits EMR, so wires need insulation and shielding.
* Frequency must be sent to consumer at 50Hz. This has to be maintained and monitored.

AC Advantages

* Voltage can be stepped up and down.

This is an advantage of using AC current over DC and not a reason why you should use a AC MOTOR over a DC one

* Can be transmitted at high voltage.
* Less energy loss in transmission.

same with these

reasons should look more like this
*less moving parts = less wear

AC Disadvantages

* Back emf opposes supplied emf.

DC also has this

it is also more difficult for AC to be converted between a motor/generator

Advantages of AC
  • AC can be transformed
  • AC generators have fewer moving parts and are thus easier and cheaper to maintain
  • AC produces less heat, friction and are lighter and more efficient than their DC conterparts
Advantages of DC
  • DC does not need as much insulation as DC has no high frequency electromagnetic radiation.
  • DC generators also produce a back emf, but the transmission of DC has no energy loss due to induction in adjacent lines and metal structures
Disadvantages of AC
  • AC will produce eddy currents due to the production of a back emf
  • AC needs thicker insulation to minimise interference with other electronic equipment
Disadvantages of DC
  • DC cannot be transformed
  • DC generators are not as reliable due to sparking and wear across the split ring commutators.

N/A
- Ac motors are brushless and develop a higher torque.
- The speed and the power developed can be varied with the aid of a controller.
- They can operate at higher voltages hence reducing the size of wire.

I think ac motors are better than dc.
Thanks for your information.
