I've always felt the rule within under or over 5 years of your age is OK.

I think if you get past 25, you generally think like that.

If your a school leaver, you would be thinking under/over 2 years gap IMO.

I stick by this formula for dating at my age (18)

Minimum age = your age/2 + 7

Especially in high school, dating someone who is upwards of 2 years younger or 2 years older gives a creepy vibe and often doesn't end well. There's a reason relationships between 17 year old girls and 21 year old men are basically restricted to low SES areas and often get on the media for domestic abuse cases.

Post high school I guess 4 years younger is acceptable. But personally my preference is for +- 12 months of me.

FYI, my ex is three months younger than me.
